Sounds like you mean something around 4 hours or so away(?)... say around 300 miles?
Our definition of "longer" distances seem to differ somewhat.


So, I'll re-phrase my earlier statement ...

My opinion as regarding my "longer" distances (normally 2-up) is that the SM or America (albeit do-able) do not fit this spec.




A bigger bike with more oomph for 2-up riding is way more pleasant on LONGER rides, no question.

On the SM at 80 MPH - oh sorry, an INDICATED 80 MPH - you're turning around 5K RPM. On a 1600 cc bike you'll be around 3K RPM.

And not for nothing Dog, if you're going from PA to VA there are WAY more nicer ways to get there than the slab. Pull out that paper road map and avoid the slabs.
