It has happened to several of us. No definite cause has been established that i'm aware of. Mine did it sporadically for a few hundred miles, then it stopped acting up and has been fine ever since. It hasn't done it again in more than 10,000 miles. The odometer never missed a beat, just the speedo.
There's definitely a possibility (as in my case) that it will eventually straighten itself out.
