The days are getting longer and it brings to mind warmer days exploring some of the many scenic highways North Georgia has to offer and ... GEORGIA RALLY '06 . Yep! won't be long now I'll be hearing the sweet sound of all those Triumphs echoing through these North Georgia Mountains once again. I of course, being the selfless kinda guy I am, will soon be out riding endless hours of twisty mountain roads trying to find the perfect route to appease the senses. These things I do for you guys...
Last years rally was a great success, the weather was perfect and we had a good turnout considering the threat of rain that never materialized. We got in some sweet rides including Wolf Pen Gap rd and Richard Russell Scenic Parkway. We also visited TWO (two wheels only) and managed to meet up with members of the Bonneville forum for lunch and an excellent photo op in Hiawassee.
This years rally is going to be held on May 4th thru 7th in Dahlonega Georgia, the brochure calls it "a charming mountain community nestled in the North Georgia mountains"... I just call it home.
Here's pretty much the lay out for this year as it stands...
Thursday May 4th is arrival day... folks trickle in from all directions through the course of the day so we pretty much hang out and talk a lot about motorcycles till everyone shows up. There will be several small rides during the day as we gather the group then we usually order in pizza, hang out and..... talk a lot about motorcycles.
Friday May 5th will likely begin with a trip down to Newnan and Triumph Corporate headquarters. We rode down in '04 and despite having to run the slab to get there, a good time was had by all so I thought we'd give it another go. I'm still working out the details of the trip and will let you know more when I do. Friday afternoon/evening will be "Tech Day" so all you tweakers out there be sure to bring your goodies.
Saturday... we're going to ride up the North Carolina and run the Dragon ... I've him-hawed about it in the past due to the distance of the trip but after giving it much thought (and the refresher ride we took last fall) I think that will be the ideal day ride for our group.
Those who have ridden the Dragon probably won't mind giving it another go and those who haven't should allow themselves that experience. It is a beautiful ride and I thought it would be cool for everyone to see the Topoco Lodge and all that area has to offer.
After a long day of riding we'll gather for mass consumption of beverages and feast on Larrysheps famous Ham/Turkey .... and probably talk a lot about motorcycles.
Those of you interested in attending please let me know as soon as possible at chy@bonnevilleamerica.com so I can send out updates as they develop and get a head count. The links within provide basic info about tourism and lodging, for further info contact me directly.

Famous Ham/Turkey....? From the looks of things and all of the interest, just may have to get a couple of each. Well that can be done....it is worth it.....!

Sorry guys but count me in. Last year Royal stayed at the little EconoLodge just up the road from chy's house. Maybe a switch this year? The price was better, but Raj is always so good to us I kinda feel bad if we abandon him. Maybe some leverage to get a better price since we do use half the place up anyway. If only I knew someone local that could bend Raj's arm behind his back.....

The Econolodge is bunches closer .... it's only what maybe 3 or 4 miles from our place. If we can get a head count pretty soon we'll see what they have to offer.

I am glad you finally got this post going can't wait to see everyone again. I might come down a day or two earlier and visit my aunt and uncle in Stockbridge. Now I just have to get the bike back together.

The only issue I could see with the Econolodge is where do we party when we get back from your place?!? I only saw the front of the building so if there is a back part of it where we could hang (off the road), the Econolodge would be fine with me...

Yeah I'm with Phil. Closer and cheaper is good but you walk out your door and your practically standing in the road.

Most of the rooms at Econolodge are in the back, three floors I think and a big parking lot.

Excellent!
One thing Raj did not mind (I guess) was us out in the parking lot yapping and partying. The Shell at the top of the hill was convenient when we ran out (twice!) of beverages...
I think there was a convenience store near the Econolodge??

I'm sure one or two of us won't mind being designated beverage getters. I'm not a big drinker, so I'll just kindly take my pic of one of Chy's 4 wheeled vehicles and take her for a spin

Be good to see you and Mrs Newt again. Very big and flat parking lot, convenience store 100 yards away. When I see how many people are interested, we'll see if we can get a good rate.

I'll stay anywhere, Econolodge sounds fine. The Rajmahal wasn't all that.
I hope they have the same air freshner Raj uses.

Did someone mention bikes on trailers, wtf! This is the Triumph site right

Phil (bonny) got to one of my main concerns first. We need an accomodating host that doesn't mind hearing Dinq's lovely voice busting nads and wafting over the hills until all hours.
The other was I wouldn't mind not making that horrific, uphill left into the Raj Mahal again. Those invisible trucks coming over the horizon at 150mph were a little scary.
Whatever the group decides works for me. Oh yeah, and I like cheaper. More money for beer, mods, and good mexican food!
Ride Safe.
