The days are getting longer and it brings to mind warmer days exploring some of the many scenic highways North Georgia has to offer and ... GEORGIA RALLY '06 . Yep! won't be long now I'll be hearing the sweet sound of all those Triumphs echoing through these North Georgia Mountains once again. I of course, being the selfless kinda guy I am, will soon be out riding endless hours of twisty mountain roads trying to find the perfect route to appease the senses. These things I do for you guys...
Last years rally was a great success, the weather was perfect and we had a good turnout considering the threat of rain that never materialized. We got in some sweet rides including Wolf Pen Gap rd and Richard Russell Scenic Parkway. We also visited TWO (two wheels only) and managed to meet up with members of the Bonneville forum for lunch and an excellent photo op in Hiawassee.
This years rally is going to be held on May 4th thru 7th in Dahlonega Georgia, the brochure calls it "a charming mountain community nestled in the North Georgia mountains"... I just call it home.
Here's pretty much the lay out for this year as it stands...
Thursday May 4th is arrival day... folks trickle in from all directions through the course of the day so we pretty much hang out and talk a lot about motorcycles till everyone shows up. There will be several small rides during the day as we gather the group then we usually order in pizza, hang out and..... talk a lot about motorcycles.
Friday May 5th will likely begin with a trip down to Newnan and Triumph Corporate headquarters. We rode down in '04 and despite having to run the slab to get there, a good time was had by all so I thought we'd give it another go. I'm still working out the details of the trip and will let you know more when I do. Friday afternoon/evening will be "Tech Day" so all you tweakers out there be sure to bring your goodies.
Saturday... we're going to ride up the North Carolina and run the Dragon ... I've him-hawed about it in the past due to the distance of the trip but after giving it much thought (and the refresher ride we took last fall) I think that will be the ideal day ride for our group.
Those who have ridden the Dragon probably won't mind giving it another go and those who haven't should allow themselves that experience. It is a beautiful ride and I thought it would be cool for everyone to see the Topoco Lodge and all that area has to offer.
After a long day of riding we'll gather for mass consumption of beverages and feast on Larrysheps famous Ham/Turkey .... and probably talk a lot about motorcycles.
