Well, as far as chain lube, I use Amsoil Heavy metal protector... And as far as chains, I lube them when I think about it which is usually about every 2500 5000 miles LOL, never had a premature failure of any sort yet, my speedy still has the original chain at almost 16000 miles, chain still in great shape, only change I have made is that I just put on a 19t front sprocket yesterday to replace the 16 that was originally there.... On my blackbird, when I got it, it had one of those POS aluminum rear sprockets... now you talk about something that wont last long, especially on a high horsepower bike.... That sprocket looked new when I got the bike and 2000 miles later, it was trashed... I now have replaced both sprockets and the chain ( 530 ) on that bike.. and yes, it has a clip, not a rivet master link!!!.. When it comes to modern chains, I have yet to see a master link break, since I started working in a bike shop a few days a week, we have seen our share of trashed motors come in from broken chains and I have to say, not a single one broke at the master link... A lot of these kids on these high power sport bikes/stunters etc just run their bikes into the ground, and we get many in for chain replacement where the rollers are literally disintigrating but the masters have never failed...
