If you do a search for chain failures, you'll find all kinds of stories about clip type master links.
I haven't been able to find one about rivet link failures. Again, these bikes don't have the torque load to really make it an issue. Unless, of course, it's installed incorrectly.
But on high powered motorcycles there are indeed side loading forces that can pop a spring clip.
That's why they're not allowed on race bikes.
So for me, rivets. Can't be too strong.
