What I have said about my care opf chains is all true and the mileage I have gotten but everyone keep in mind that is with the X ring chain not a std chain with no seals. The std. chain with no seals would need to be cleaned and lubed often since there are no seals to keep lube in or dirt out.

I actually am impressed with the mileage I have gotten from this chain since I haven't maintained it at all. All the clip does is prevent the outer plate from working it's way off. As Aaron said above the clip is the only real difference between the 2 style master links and the clip can come off if not put on correctly, never saw one installed correctly come loose, not saying it hasn't happened, just have never seen it.
