The diameter is the same on either rivet or clip style, so how can you say one is stronger than the other. One might argue that the clip style has longer pins to fit the clip, but it's still the same as the rivet inside to inside measurements. You can also say that the clip can come unclipped, which is possible, but what are you doing to an O-ring chain when you rivet the pins? You're just smashing the O-rings, which can also cause premature chain failure. I think Ian's experience with chains, and the lack there of for recommended chain replacement just shows us how much more reliable these parts are than what manufacturers recommend.
