Thanks for that Ian,
Holden first used the 307 Canadian V8 back in about 1968 or 9, then 327's and 350's. They also built Aussie 253 and 308 V8's. They have been using the gen3 350's and 454's in recent times in the Monaro's (GTO's for you guys)
I built up a 307 bored and stroked to 350 with stock heads and mild cam and 650 spreadbore Holley, and dropped it in my ski boat, Goes like the clappers and pulls away like nothing else. Will pull 3 skiers out of deep water with ease and no probs with 3 barefooters at 55mph either. And it is still going strong. Couldn't kill it with an axe.

I would love to see that in action, smoking some ribs or something! I'm guessing the headers double as vents.

I dunno. Doesn't have quite the same capacity as the giant gun grill in the other grill thread. But it does look cool. I've got a spare Ford 302 in the garage that I may or may not rebuild for my Mustang. I was thinking of making it into a coffee table but the grill could be cooler.

I bet George Foreman wished he'd thought of that design first!
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

I have a Studebaker V8 out back I was thinking of turning into a coffee table with glass top.
Man if you went to all that trouble building a 350 from a 307 why didn't you take it that one last step and build a 383 stroker?

Nah, not much trouble, heaps of fun. The motor needed reco, but block wasn't worth it. Had seen too much salt water.
Next option the reco mob had a 307 block bored to 4", then got 350 crank, bit more lift cam, then threw it all together. Had our heads recoed, was the cheapest way out. Ended up about 11:1 compression ratio, idled nicely at 600rpm and would rev to 7000 with no load, but the prop and hull wouldn't let it get over 5500 when under way.
A boat is a hole in the water you pour money into, so always aimed for best results at cheapest cost.
Plus the best bit was I built it myself, and get heaps of satisfaction every time I take it out.

5.7 rods and a 400 crank and you have a 383 stroker.

I'm thinking you need a block with 4 bolt mains, and I'm not sure if the 307 has em

4 bolt is preferable but not manditory and I don't know for sure if the 307 block came with 4 bolt mains ever or not.

WOW!!! Well now that I've seen this really boss BBQ, I think I'll...
Save my pennies and save my dimes, (giddy up, giddy up, 409)
'Cause I think that there will come a time (giddy up, giddy up, 409)
When I'll want to grill on a 409 (giddy up, giddy up, 409)
Nothin' will char like, nothin' will grill like my 409 (409, 409, 409, 409)
(with apologies to Brian Wilson)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
