Has anyone relocated the rear brake resevoir? IMO is ugly sticking out in front of the bike.

If I could find a place to put it I would move it. (only nice places please)

Open to suggestions.

I threw away the original and fitted an aftermarket which I think looks much better than that awful original item. If you search on rizoma within the last year you should find some photos of it if not send me your e-mail address and I will email some over

First post on the site, and I too would like to see some pictures of relocating/replacing the rear brake resevior to "clean-up" the side view.

be careful where you move it to........the first bikes had brake failers "with out any waring" when the bike tipped over or was laid down air would get in the lines ..triumph had a safety recall to move the rear brake reservoir. .. to the spot it sets to day ...

I took mine off the bracket, removed the bracket and threw it in my box then mounted the resrvoir to the lower mounting hole. It drops and brings in the resevoir so its not sticking way out there. Been ther for 5000 miles or so.

Erwin, when you say you removed the bracket and mounted it on the lower mountig hole....can you elaborate just a bit more. I was able to find the rixoma brake reseviors on line. They are nice looking pieces.

when they first came out with the TBA..the rear brake reservoir was mounted lower on the frame... when they did the saftey recall ..they used a small bracket to move it up higer...so if the bike did tip over or get droped air would not get in the line ......and remeber this is very real if you do move your rear brake reservoir.. and you tip your bike over or drop it please get it back home and bleed the line's because the rear brakes can fail with out any warning ... it happened to me and my wife we were almost killed one after noon ...when the rear brakes faied with out any warning .. at the park that day we parked in the grass at a table we were setting thier haveing a smoke and the bike tiped over right in front of us...we ran over picked it up saw there was damage... so we kept on riding 2 hours later this fool cut us off hard... went to get some rear brake and we had nothing had to pull hard to the right and jump the curb.. got it stoped on the side walk but it was a scare ... this is a very real problem with these bike..and i was not the only member to have this happen to and thank to a member of this site and i belive his name was "renegade" got the all of us to sign a petition and got triumph to fix it..

Mine is still mounted low, it can't be moved because of the oil coolers I have. I am and have been aware of the problem, so if something horrible happens and my bike ends up on its side, at least I know what to expect.

Thank you for heads up and important advice to bleed the rear brake in that situation - would have overlooked this. I am still very much wanting to "clean" that up a bit so will look at the removing bracket and mounting to the lower hole as suggested ealier by Erwin. Got some ISO grips and the Wild Customs led grip signals today so I will give this a go.

Biker: I guess alot of folks have you and others to thank for the safe system we have today. I never seen the old setup, but I would imagine if the resevoir was lower it would allow air from the resevior to get into the cylinder easier. I guess the longer/higher hose allows the air to go back into the resevior. If it's that simple, would keeping the same basic height but getting it off the front of the frame do the same thing...I think so....opinion?

I also had a tip over with the original lower mounted reservoir on my '03 Speedmaster. The same day my rear brakes faded dramatically and I had to bleed the lines.

My '07 Speedy came with the reservoir mounted higher.

I agree the reservoir is a bit hideous where it is. I haven't done it yet but I looking at moving it up where the horn is. But that won't happen until I replace the horn so it ain't done yet.

Roadworthy mount your horn under the tank. Helps to clean the front end up. I am considering mounting mine up high on the frame, on the side. Could run the line up along the cooler and barley notice it. This would eliminate the concern of the air getting in the line. I guess I need to mock it up and see how it looks.

I can't believe I don't have a better pic than this of my oil coolers and the original position of the reservoir. The horn is barely noticeable, but I may get a chrome cover for it to dress it up some.

Roadworthy, rather than chrome cover the horn I used the original horn and just re routed the wiring and placed the horn under the tank using the old emission control unit location holes. Looks much cleaner. Have also fitted the rizoma reservoir which tidies it up further but really must get some of those coolers they look really good. What are they like performance wise and where did you get them and how much.

They come from bonnevillperformance.com I don't remember how much they were. My bike runs at 200 degrees (according to the oil cap thermometer) almost all the time, I can shoot the top fitting with a infrared thermometer and it reads about 190 or so, down at the bottom it reads about 145

What temp did it run with the stock cooler?

I never got a temp on the fittings with the stock cooler, so I don't know how much it dropped from top to bottom

I tend to run between 180º and 190º but have been as hot as 220º more or less in heavy bumper to bumper traffic.
