After installing the new cush drive i am getting vibrations at 3000 to 3500 rev`s in the top couple of gears , over that and it`s fine , i was thinking that the cush drive may have put my wheel out of balance , possible , but i thought that vibration from a out of balance wheel would show it self in different speed`s not different rev`s
What do you guy`s think it could be

I haven't changed my cush drive yet but want to soon, but I don't see where that would give those vibes. I had similiar vibes till I changed the chain, but I also then used a chain alignment tool so I'm not sure which one fixed the problem. Not sure your miles on the chain. The alignment tool did show me that those marks for adjusting the alignment aren't exact, like alot of others have mentioned on the forum.

Not at all likely to be the cush drive or chain, based on your assertion that it is RPM related.

How long since you balanced the carbs?

Hey Ian,

Did you ever find out what the cause of your vibration was? I've got a similar one between 3300-3800 RPM when accelerating. Been living with it since its not real severe, but would like to have it gone.

I have the same vibration at arount 3500 rpm. If I pull in my clutch and let the engine idle, the vibration goes away so it isn't road related. I think a proper carb adjustment should dial it out.

Not really an issue though.

I am prone to vibration in the same 3400-3500 range. When I balance my carbs (mercury balancer), I check them at idle, but also at a steady 3400-3500 range where the vibration feels the greatest. If it's off, I compromise between that and idle. That did help smooth mine out a little.

Also, I check the balance after any pilot screw adjustment. I've heard you don't have to, but I've noticed that even the smallest screw change does change the balancing. Be sure to re-adjust the idle after any screw adjustments before checking balance.

I have rode three different 865s.. "ALL" of them have a small tingle in the bars only at that rpm... Above or below is silky smooth.... I was going to put brass bar ends in but to my surprise something was in the bar ends from the factory.. Hmmmmmmmmm. I try to avoid those rpms.. V.

I have the same vibration on my S/M at about 3500 RPM from new , felt a bit worse when I put foot boards on but just got to live with it I suppose. Good to know that more people have the problem and its not just me being too picky .

That vibration at high speeds/RPMs in 4th and 5th gears is why I put on the 19 tooth sprocket for highway riding. I installed it just prior to the trip to the Baxter Cycle Rally in Marne Iowa. My brother, on a 1050 Tiger, and I averaged 84 mph on the trip back to Kansas City. My feet didn't get numb from the vibration and I wasn't looking for the 6th gear.
