Some of you guys will be familiar with my mate who is a farmer in the US he is bit odd to say the least. Occassionaly he has flashes of brilliance here is his latest offering on how to resolve the American economy problems. I take no responsability for the validity of his thoughts or anything else he does....but he does make me think.

Dear Mr. President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them $1 million each severance for early retirement wwith the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.
Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American car..
Forty million cars ordered - Auto industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage.
Housing crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress

pay their taxes .

Sincerely,

I cannot decide whether to be a good example or a horrible warning ! Peace & respect http://www.tomcc.org/gg/ Eric

A mate of mine suggested the same thing to me the other day.
Anyone 21 or over gets a million ... he said the same thing, imagine how many cars and houses would be bought.
Not to mention holidays, home inprovement etc.
A lot of people would retire to get out of the rat race without the need to be forced to retire.
A lot of people would stick it in the bank.
I suggested it's based on aged 21+ who have worked and 'earned' it.

I wondered what would happen when everyone had spent it all though ....
Some would blow it after giving up their jobs and be in the same position or worse afterwards - ie: jobless and no money.

What if someone can't drive or wants a non-American car?

It's such an obvious thing to suggest from me here but ... if it was possible they would have done it .... wouldn't they ..... ??

In other words, there's NO WAY this administration would ever do it!

It makes too much sense to do this. There's not enough political ties to make one party look a whole lot better than the other. That's the deciding factor for everything in congress. What makes our party look better than the other?

Which reminds me of the midwestern farmer who won the lotto. When asked what he'd do, he replied he could afford to keep on farming a few more years

$40,000,000,000,000 is a lot more than the current plan. 40 trillion! Just where do you think this money will come from? It sounds fun, but not realistic (or smart) at all.

Ummm, just so you know, $40,000,000,000,000 is 40 trillion, not nearly half a trillion.

Now WHAT kind of talk is THAT, FT???!!!

I mean, WHO WOULDN'T gladly give their right arm to be able to cruise down the road in say...a 1972 Buick "Boattail" Riviera, HUH?!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Trust me Dave, I'm right there with you. Garages all over here are struggling and 84 Lumber even closed up a yard that they just built last year or the year before. I took a job as an oil and tire change monkey at Wal Mart if that tells you anything! Talk about over qualified!

You mean, we would have to buy bikes made in the US? Terrific - I'd be the first to offer my services to Triumph to help establish a US factory. Wouldn't that be a gas??!! Triumphs made in the US of A!!!
