So long to Chief Pontiac's namesake, huh?!

Yep, if you haven't heard, GM has just announced the end of the Pontiac line of cars.

(I kind'a figured that that was comin' though)

Dang, I was still holding out hope for this Holden Ute, rebadged as the Pontiac G8 ST.

Pontiac sales have dropped like a stone over the last 10 years. Very sad.

Real sad for us geezer's that were in HS when the goats roamed around town looking for Cuda's and Mustangs to devour. If those Cuda's had a 426 hemi hidden underneath, that was another story and for another post. Hear's to you Pontiac.

I know what you're sayin', John! I saw one of those at the L.A. Auto Show this past year, and of course bein' a guy who's nuts for old El Caminos, I thought it was REALLY cool too!!!

Well, maybe GM will still think about rebadging that Aussie baby as a Chevy El Camino instead? However, I kind'a doubt it seeing as how it probably would have very limited appeal out there, and G.M. is probably feeling the pressure to go more after the mass market now. What a shame, huh?!

One of the auto blogging sites said that this will hurt Holden to the tune of 5 buh-buh-buh-billion dollars. Yikes.

That sucks, I used to love the old Pontiac's. My 1st Pontiac was a 1970 GTO, I was hooked! I was a kid and got a little drunk one night and decided to see how fast I could get it going across a local bridge, Got it going over 100 but couldn't stop at the other side. Next I bought a 1970 Grand Prix, My favorite Pontiac a real sleeper. Most people would see that big car and not even think twice about it. It ran great, ran an 1100 Kawasaki and had it going 140-145mph she flew. Sold it to buy my 1969 Triumph TR6 Trophy then found a 1969 Grand Prix the engine smoked on one bank, Found a 455HO engine and built it after alot of research and finding special parts, put the engine in and ended up selling it for a down payment on a house. Didn't get to even fire it up. But I did get to drive it after I sold it to my x brother in law. So much power it was breaking everything! Driveshaft, Rearend, and even cracked the bell housing all at different times. I still have a couple old Pontiac engines that I want to rebuild and find a nice sothern car to put it in. I will miss the Pontiac Line. I think the old Pontiac's were better engineered than the compareable Chevy's of the 60's and early 70's. Sad state of affairs right now in the states when american car companies are folding left and right. RIP Pontiac!

Sorry for the long rant but I will definitely miss the Pontiac's

Yep , still have my 71 LeMans Sport out back in a zillion pieces. Wanted to restore it but never got around to it. I have a 3:08 Possi rear , 11" clutch and a 390 HP 400 for it . As well as a disc break front end. I miss driving that car, great fun. Was all jacked up in the back dual exhaust with glass packs.

Back in those days I had a "K-code" '65 Mustang with a few additional mods (cam, headers, Holley, intake, etc.).

Goats couldn't touch it.

That said, it is too bad about the demise of an iconic brand

my first 'real' car in high school was a 67 Pontiac GTO. One of the best looking cars that I have ever owned. Stock it was pretty fast, but after way too much tinkering and all of my money at the time, I ended up with 428, tri power, turbo 400 long shaft trany, and nitrous. Got a ticket once for pulling the front wheels up on a public street. Beat a lot of fords, chevys and chislers.
Always regretted selling that car. So long Pontiac.

My first car was a 1974 Pontiac Grand Am, first year they didn't call it a GTO. Looking back at it the car was a bit much for a 17 year old kid with no fear. Man I had fun with that car. My first car was a Pontiac and my last car will be a Pontiac, cause aint no way I'm parting with my 68' Firebird. Learned my lessons after I parted with a few really nice First Gen Camaros. Just clipped over 130 mph a few weeks ago and it was still pushing really hard. Plenty left to go.

I agree, too bad since you would have lost.

At least I still have it, trouble is it is being passed by squirrels and chipmunks now.
