When you guys squeeze your front brake, does the lever touch the throttle?

I've been trying to bleed them, apparently I've got more work to do. I'll have to read alittle deeper into the thread about brake bleeding.

Thanks

yeah, I've had problems too with the front and that's after reading how others have sorted out their own air bubbles.

I think it just takes time and persistance but I don't know anyone that wasn't able to get it right eventually.

Btw, I was thinking about buying a pump to make it easier for myself but now I'm not that sure.

I think the best way is to run a piece of clear tube from the bleeder into a jar of clean fluid and pump until you see no more bubbles. Let it sit for a little bit and repeat.

To be fair, that was a one time deal, my fluid got contaminated and I actually had to blow air through the line to get all the crud out... the bad part about it was that I just wanted to tighten the lever up a bit because the next day I was headed to Sturgis! I didn't find out until after work, and then I saw this...
The one on the left was one that the dealer actually took off of a floor model Bonneville because he didn't have any for an America on hand, and then he stayed open later for me to have time to get there and get it that day after I explained my situation....
Anyway, when I took the reservoir cap off, the old diaphragm swelled out and I knew I was in trouble

Long story short, I had to clean out the entire system that night, and I think I finally got my brakes to work by like 11:00 or 11:30. Contaminated fluid will do that, so make sure you check for any dark spots in it, apparently thats water or other bad stuff to have....

And no, the pieces of grass stuck to it came after I threw it down in the driveway in disgust!

I had to bleed my front several times, what with taking the bars off for when it got shipped to the States and back again last year... I couldn't get the air out either till in desparation I cracked the line up at the resivore, pulled lever in and presto, bubbles galore... Use lots of rags to protect your paintwork, it's rather corrosive stuff...

Try bleeding it with a Mighty-Vac pump.
Instead of pumping with the bleeder open, close the bleeder and build up about
25" of vacuum and then open the bleeder.
After that use Dinqua's trademarked "Tippy Tappy Tap Tap"method.

That actually works! I was ready to give up bleeding my front brake when I finally tried that trick.

I have never had so much trouble bleeding a brake system on anything like I have bleeding the brakes on this bike for some reason. I eventually get them bled but it is a painful experience. When you get it close tape or bungie the front brake on over nite and do the tippy tap thing the following day and jam something in the rear brake lever to hold it down overnight as well and it will progressively get better.

Or use a zip tie.

The Tippy Tap Tap procedure is a highly guarded industry secret, and I think Pat is still under surveillance....

Hi Guys ...I found that the air bubbles get trapped in the banjo fitting at the end of the master cylinder and this is how I sorted it...
Make sure the resevoir is filled to the high level and the cap is on.
Remove the master cylinder and suspend it vertically.
Remove a caliper and then push the pistons back in as far as possible, this will force the bubble out of the banjo fitting and up into the resevoir air space.
Sit the caliper back on the disc and pump the cylinder while its still in the vertical position until the pistons are back out.
If it still feels spongy do it again...i,ve had success on three different triumphs at the first try..My speedy is firm and i cant get the lever anywhere near the bars, cheers, Tadpole
