This is dang close to what i would build if I had the time. Too bad it's in IL (and doesn't quite run yet)...

Thats pretty cool. Don't seem many triples in chopper form. Those old long bikes always make me grin. Mine started out that way, but now is more of of a bobber than a chopper (almost hate to use that word).

Does anyone think the eBay bike might be an OK deal? I'd have to pay about $700 to have it shipped door-to-door. I don't know anyone in Chicago who can go see it prior to purchase. There's a better description of the bike in his answer to one of my questions:

"The chrome is all good...with just a few really minor bits of rust throughout the entire bike. IT is by no means a wannna-be show-made piece of trailer-queen trash like these new clown-cycles they make now-a-days. It is a "built-by-a-biker" & "ridden-by-a-biker" bike from the days of biker glory. That having been said, the Springer springs are perfect with the center rod being rusted. The girders are in perfect condition with the front of the lower triple tree having four tapped screw holes that have gotten rusty. The rest of the bike has excellent paint...not perfect...but definitely in excellent shape. I haven't spoken to anyone in trying to get it running. If I trailered it somewhere, I would be putting in time and money, and I have none of neither that I can devote to the bike. I can't imagine it would cost more than about $800 or somewhere around there to ship it. look up harley transport companies on the net, and someone should be able to quote you a price."
I don't know why, but this one is knawin' at me. I don't even like hardtails. WTF.

His above comment is what would worry me. I'm not much in to hard tail choppers either, but it's a great looking bike and it would be a great price if it ran.

I would want it running for that kind of money. Another thing to consider is those old triples tended to overheat the center cylinder. Also a bit steep for a triple in my opinion but if you like it then maybe not. Also in my opinion that tank would have to go, I always hated all those angular tanks.

Yeah, you guys are right. The triple isn't my favorite motor either, and if it's toast, the bike is overpriced. Always did like those square springers though, especially with the long rockers. Does anyone still make these, or do you have to buy an older build like this to get one? Also, does anyone make a raked hardtail frame that will take our late style motors?

Choppahead makes a frame for the new motor.

I would love to see someone take that frame and make a nice springer out of it.

I haven't seen the long rockers in years. I have them on the bike I posted they come to a point on both ends and the front square girder on mine is twisted. That front end is pretty much shot now though. Way too much slop in the bottom and I think It is beyond new bushings this time. Oh and mine did have bushings not like the cheap new ones that don't It also needs to be re-chromed now, it still polishes up but it isn't really nice anymore. That bike has a fully polished crankcase and head and rocker boxes. The carb and intake are polished too. I have close up shots of the engine back when I first polished it out mirror finish but haven't scanned or uploaded them. I'll pull that front end apart and weld up the bottom for the bushings and re-bore them. I have 2 more of those front ends both need to be chromed too.I also have 1 front and 2 rear invaders old 5 spoke rear and 6 spoke front. I have a bunch of that old school stuff packed away.

I just checked, and someone bought it today with Buy It Now. Don't suppose it was anyone here? That'd be great to see a BA member with it!

Dog, you have way too much of that old junk. I think you need someone to help ya clean house.

I have some of my old stuff in the link in my signature. If you click that and then click the link to the right that says "old stuff" there are some projects and a couple finished bikes there. Most of them are farther along than in the pictures since those are fairly old pictures.

Better yet here is a link to the old stuff.

The chopper or the 69 Lightning?

The 64 BMW is as I brought it home, I haven't done much but clean it up and put a seat on it then ride it. I have the same seat as seen in the picture but in good condition on it now but I did have a solo on it for a while. Also lost the red sparley grips.

By the way I picked that BMW up from a kid who was going to try and chop it then lost interest. His dad had traded a Pan for it back in the day and it only had 4,000 miles on it from new and the speedo still worked when I brought it home. I only paid $400 for it and all I had to do to make it run was clean the carbs , put fresh gas in it ,and change the oil. I cheacked the points but they were clean and didn't need to be adjusted. It's a magnito / generator bike.

Well, there ya have it. I'll give you $600 (that includes a nice $200 finder's fee) and another $200 for that few minutes of labor ya had to do. Total: $800. Such a deal! Never let it be said I don't treat my friends right!

I would sell you the rear wheel for that if it was for sale!

Been offered $4,000 and another guy offered me a much newer BMW with a boxer. It isn't for sale, that bike is like the energizer bunny it just keeps going and going. All I ever do is change the oil and put gas in it. It's registered right now.
