Mexico problems, liberals blame us for our guns and ammo going to Mexico, with a "liberal" president and many anti-gun Senators= Unbridled fear of gun control and tight ammo controls and disbursement rumors.


A few talk about it then the NRA starts a panic and the manufacturers start a little glut to make big money on the demand. Has been happening for the last 40 years every time someone who does not love guns takes office.

Then everybody runs out and buys up the ammo making an unreasonable and unnecessary shortage.



I was discussing this with the owner of a large gun store and he said this was the most aggressive run on guns and ammo of the past 35 years... with little sign of slowing down. There was a similar run that lasted about 6 weeks in 1992 when Clinton was initially elected and Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. During the Bush administration there was a short lived run on guns and ammo after news came out that the National Guard and civilian 'contractors' were disarming citizens in an around New Orleans in the wake of hurricane Katrina, as well as a swelling of gun purchases after the Patriot Act was signed into law. (The Bush administration's subsequent weakening of Posse Comitatus appears to have slipped under the gun buying radar)

With one party currently in control of both the White House and Congress, (with an almost super majority that prevents full debate, let alone effective opposition to proposed laws), that has not only shown a willingness to force through legislation but has also recently sponsored a number of gun control bills; I would guess that the gun and ammo buying will continue while gradually lessening.

Helping to keep the momentum going are government publications such as the Missouri MIAC Strategic Report of 20 Feb 09 and the Department of Homeland Security report of 7 Apr 09 that broadly classify potentially dangerous right wing 'extremists' to include those groups and individuals who support the 2nd amendment and oppose gun control. (Naturally among the government sponsored report's recommendations is stricter gun control.)

Look up the cited and other similar documents... you might be surprised at how close to being a potential extremist/terrorist YOU are.
