Hello all, a friend of mine just gave me a set of Progressive 412's. They are 11.5" and made for a sportster. Will they work on our bikes? They came with different inserts for the shock bolts.
Thanks

02 Black America---Don't blame me cause the black ones are the fastest, its gods doing!!! http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk146/jwoyshnar/

The stock shocks are 12.5". I put 11.5" 412s on my bike.
They are much better than the stockers, but I can scrape
the Bubs now. You lose a little ground clearance.

I've been looking at the 412s. On ebay I've found 12.5" 412s for a HD FXR etc for 200ish and the same guy has the triumph part number ones for 250. Is there any difference?
OH and howdy to everyone on BA.com I haven't check in here in for a while.

i bought a pair of 412's for my 08 America, I think i got them from FastEddy. When i got them I noticed they were for HD, 412-4050 i think is the number, they are 12", .5" shorter than stock. With the right sleaves they fit perfect and oh so nice on the old behind!

yes mine did too, but i think you need to ask Fast Eddy for them when you order, in the box they came with the HD bushings. Also 4050's are Heavy Duty shocks, so if you don't need those you have more options.

Ok, here's the tech type stuff on the 412's, if you're gonna put sportster 412's on our bikes you gotta go with the heavy duty ones. The standard sportster spring rate is 20 pounds less per spring than the ones for our bikes which is fine if you weigh 140, but I've been to a couple of rallies and I think most of us are pretty north of that number. The heavy duty sportster shocks are 5 pounds heavier per spring so in my opinion that's an acceptable difference. The only other difference is travel, our springs have a travel of 9.3ish and the sportster heavy duty shocks have a travel of 9.1ish also an acceptable difference in my opinion. You do need to get the america/speedmaster bushings because the sportster ones are too big. Both Eddy and Brent can get you exactly what you need from progressive. I know all this off the top of my head because I just spent several hours on the phone with Eddy, Beth from progressive, Eddy again, Beth, Eddy, Beth, ect. Trying to get what I wanted, which was 1" lower rears in black, which progressive does not make for our bikes, so after a lot of investigation I got all the specs and made my decision from there.

Let my dying thought be that every mile was fun and let my tombstone read,"They never made one fast enough for me."
