The French have worked really hard in that area too.
Speaking of the French, it seems like they had a similar incident they resolved succesfully last Friday (killing 2 pirates).

Last I heard, it was unclear who killed the hostage. Has there been clarification?
The French have also conducted two other rescues of hostages from the pirates last year, and brought several pirates back for trial.

So Bill and Thanassis, you guys are saying here that the French have had some success in this sort of conflict, huh?! Well, in that case I suppose it's a good thing those pirates were Somalian and not German then, huh guys?! (man...those poor french folks are never gonna live down WWII, are they?!)

You don't have to and I don't think what's going on is funny either but I joke, that's what I do and my personality. I like to laugh. I was laughing at the situation or people being hurt on either side, well maybe the pirates a little since they get what they deserve. No one forced them to be pirates and screw with people who will kill them rather than deal. So I am fine with joking about them. It is s serious situation but what am I going to do about it? If see humor in something chances are I'm gonna say it. Wouldn't be the first time it bothered someone won't be the last.

News this morning was that an American ship managed to escape. Now, if merchant ships are not allowed to arm themselves against pirate attacks, why can't a couple of destroyers assigned to patrol that area start escorting convoys? That worked reasonably well in the 40's and the pirates don't seem to have any U boats, so it should work even better.
