First oil change coming up and I was wondering which oil is best to use in our bikes.
The shop I bought my bike from say's I should use Mobil One synthetic that they sell at the shop.
What ya'll think are they right or are they just trying to sell me a bill of goods?

No, they're right. Mobil 1 is great stuff and believe it or not will even make your bike run quicker than some other oils ! However, you don't neeed to buy the triumph branded stuff. Go to autozone or other chain and get mobil 1 "V twin" 20/50 oil. It's the same stuff but a couple bucks or so cheaper. You can read all the debates on oil you want, but thats all you need and it's as good as anything and better than most IMO.

Do what you want, Mike, but I'm using Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w40. About $14 now at Walmart for a 4L jug.

Get a good oil filter (do a search here for that - there are several good choices and other members here have already done the research), and get some extra crush washers for your drain plug from your dealer so you can change that each time, too. (They are cheap, so get several and you'll have one for next time.)

I put the Shell Rotella in at my 500 mile service which I did myself, and changed it again at 4k, 8k, and then 12k miles. Sent off a sample to BLACKSTONE LABS at the 12k service, and it came back good. I may not do that every oil change (it's $20 for the analysis), but figured I might do it again at 20k for a reference. My owner's manual says 10w40 or 15w50 - semi-synthetic or synthetic. It meets all the specs except JASO MA (look them up in a google search).

I'm plenty satisfied, and although this is excellent diesel oil, it has none of the slippery additives that a lot of car engine oils do that increase fuel economy but would also damage our wet clutches. It works, and it's practical. Save your money for chrome, clothes, tires, or whatever else floats your boat.

I second what Keith said. Shell Rotella Syn and a Pure One oil filter, #PL14612.

Don't let the term diesel oil scare you off. This is a excellent syn. oil that is cheap enough to change every 3 to 4000 miles, which is what I do.

Look here, Mike. Scroll down to the heading for an interesting read.ALL ABOUT OIL

Also look here: SHELL ROTELLA MOTORCYCLE FORUM

A lot of people use this stuff in their motorcycles. I have yet to here of any negative results.

I'm not looking for extended drain intervals - just good basic lubrication and protection. I'd bet any good oil would work as long as it doesn't have the "energy efficient" additives. Just change it regularly like the book says.
