Installed 18 tooth sprocket today. I'm very pleased with the results...at 60mph engine feels relaxed instead of needing another gear. Installation was fairly easy. Chain just barely slipped over the new sprocket. Had to borrow a 36mm socket for the job.

The 18t sprocket made my bike rideable at highway speeds. I have an 02 America, and I couldn't stand to ride above 70-75 because of the vibration. Now, I can cruise at 85 all day long and it doesn't bother me a bit. Did you notice any sacrifice off the line? I didn't, it feels like it always did except much easier to ride fast in top gear.

I can't really tell any difference but I don't really push it that hard off the line. I'll take the taller gearing anyday.

i went from the 16 speddy sprocket to the 18 and i do enjoy the less frantic ride, and i no longer search for the sixth gear.
there is less lightening of the front end when pushing it hard, but it is hard to tell if the bikes any slower reaching speed.
a great cheap mod, and easy to go back.

These are the kinds of things I like to hear. I've been debating it for about a month...maybe longer. I'm getting all kinds of different answers from everyone, but I wanted to hear from someone who did it. I've got an '04 Speedy and am like all you guys...looking for the 6th gear that isn't there.
That's going to be my next project. Thanks for the good reviews.

Most of my riding is 50mph or less with only an occasional trip on the interstate (65+mph - looking for 6th gear), and I for one, do enjoy the SM's torque off the line. So.... my question is: would it pay for me to install the stock BA 17t sprocket?? (I picked up one CHEAP) Would I see a benefit or any increased mileage? Thanks for your thoughts.

With the stock 17 sprocket, my BA pulls nicely enough from just over 30 MPH and up in top gear, so I think it would probably work for you. If you get into a situation where you need max acceleration, being able to hold each gear a little longer will just about make up the difference in initial "jump".
