Neat trick for stretching heavy springs, Put one end in a vise then flex it in a radius, insert coins or washers into the coils. This lengthens the spring. Install it in the retracted position. When you extend your side stand , all the washers/ coins will fall out.

That's a cool trick, I have always done it the hard way but in the retracted position.

Hey Dog
Not my idea, I bought a centrestand and they were the instructions for installing the spring. We had a spring puller, but it wouldn't go near it..
Hey man your day hasn't been a waste, you've learnt something new.

Mine went on a trip up north. I stopped at a small town bike /lawn mower shop and we bodgied it up with fencing wire. Very interesting when I stopped!!! I carried on to the next town that had a Triumph dealer and was told that I had to wait a week for the spring. So I found a wreckers and he let me go through a huge box of springs. Found a yamaha one that is almost a perfect fit. Then his apprentice put it on for me. Cost .. nothing. It was a bike wreckers in Cairns North Quensland. Nice bloke, can't remember his name though. That was years ago and the spring is still there.
