AUSTIN
Motorcyclist dies in hit and run
Police say they have arrested the driver who caused an accident early Sunday morning that killed one man and hospitalized two people.
Mario Hernandez-Rodriguez, 21, will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid, police said. He was in the Travis County Jail on Sunday.
The wreck involved two motorcycles, a Mercedes and a Chevrolet pickup driven by Hernandez-Rodriguez at 1:47 a.m. on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard just west of Springdale Road, said police Cpl. Scott Perry.
Perry said six motorcycles and the Mercedes were traveling east on MLK when Hernandez-Rodriguez, heading west, veered into oncoming traffic and hit the Mercedes and then two of the motorcycles. Hernandez-Rodriguez fled on foot but was found by police, Perry said.
One of the motorcycle drivers, a 36-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of family. A 30-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, and a 42-year-old male, the driver of a second motorcycle, were taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, Perry said, where their conditions were listed as critical. The driver of the Mercedes was not hospitalized, Perry said.

A 26 year old man lost his life at 1:47 a.m. on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. dangit to hades. They release the name of the drunk, but not the victim? Should be the other way around.
Late at night/early morning is a really nice time to ride, especially with a full moon. Except for two caveats: drunks and critters. Both are deadly. God speed the 26 year old's soul to heaven.

Two more things i see wrong here. In my experience, no matter where in the US of A you're at, MLK Jr. Drive,Boulevard, Parkway or otherwise isn't a great place to ride yer motorcycle. Between 1 and 3 a.m. just makes it that much less of a good idea.

You are right. This drunk business killing a bike rider, a pedestrian or an innocent driver is happening every few days in Austin. And a biker dies just about every 10 days from something.

There are risks that we take and that we all accept when we ride. The more often we ride and put high miles on our rides in urban jungle areas....then the more likely we are to meet the intangible.
Whether it be some fully sober cager who literally turns in front of you leaving you zero options or a drunk that violates our right of way.
We all basically pretty much consciously accept those risks and we KNOW the risks are greater for us so its just Karma or a belief that what will be will be.
As a member pointed out a few days ago......Accidents that we cause or where flora, fauna or critters contribute we hurt just as much if we survive we just cannot hope to get an insurance award.
Hit a deer and die....ya get nuthin. Hit a deer and survive....ya get nuttin
Get hit or you hit an at fault cager..and survive..ya may get something
Get hit or you hit an at fault cager and die....your wife might get a lot.
Even if the driver is stone drunk...if he is just an average joe with average means and little insurance...
.you will still likely get little.
Moral of the story. If you do get hit pray or hope the son of a buck is rich as ****** with a 1 million dollar insurance policy.
Stay away from deer.

Why is that?

I was thinking the same thing about any MLK Blvd.... they all seem to be in the $hitty part of town, no matter what town it is.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.
