While out enjoying a beautiful Spring day with my wife on the TBA, we found a working grist mill while riding around on some back roads.

We stopped to check it out.

We walked down to say hello and see if we could get a better look.

Notice the wheel is at a 22 degree angle from the building. Most wheels are parallel to the building.

The wheel turns about 7 revolutions per minute. The mechanics of the mill generate an estimated 11 horse power.

Not too bad for being built in 1784!!!

I never would have found this while driving a car.
The owner asked what kind of bike we were riding and followed it by asking if I was a member of the local HOG chapter. I'd didn't go down that "road" LOL! He told me the HOG's were planning a meet at the mill next month.

He also invited us back this fall for an open house party, complete with a Bluegrass band playing in the mill porch. Sweet!

Thanks for sharing, very interesting and nice pictures. You know, this could make for an intersting new forum on our website. Call it " Share your ride" or something like that.

Here's a trip through MO to Jack's Fork.

First one was a cool spring with this mill. It also had a water wheel for power.

Bluff over looking river with a very small ferry powered by a hand crank.

Here's another shot of the water from that spring

On that small ferry powered with a young dude and hand crank.

I thoroughly confused by these descriptions.

Those are awesome. My biggest mistake when riding is I never bring my camera. That had got to change; especially with all the miles I'm wanting to put on this season.

Nice find.

Good thing it was built in the 1700s...

...you couldn't build it today without 1,113 permits and variances
