I think you might actually be on to something though Ian. I like the channel idea better mainly for it's support on both sides. Just slip the shock between the channels and clamp her down. Honestly you don't need a sleeve welded in, just 2 holes. One on the inside big enough to slip over the old shock stud, and the outer one to clamp between the bolt and the stud. I like it.
