Benicio del Toro as Moe,
Sean Penn as Larry,
Jim Carey (plus 40 pounds) as Curley.

What's next, Brad Pitt as Shemp?

Bob

It would have to be in a sequel, otherwise it would be "The Four Stooges"!

Well, since there were actually six, though no more than three at any one time (with one notable exception), why not?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

WHAT?! HUH?!

Oh.

Well, no offense here Bob, but do me a favor and ONLY wake me up again IF you hear they've decided to cast a movie about a comedy trio that actually WAS funny, like say...THE MARX BROTHERS!!!

Okay, okay! Yeah, they WERE a foursome for a while alright, but Zeppo would quit his brother's comedy troupe fairly early on, and would later of course go on to wide acclaim for his design of cigarette lighters!!!

(hmmmm....and people wonder how "urban legends" get started, HUH?!)

Yep Bob, it tends to be the case that you're EITHER a Three Stooges fan, OR you're a Marx Brothers fan. And if you're a "little more" into wordplay/double entendre, social satire AND physical comedy, and NOT just that last genre there, well then, you tend to kind'a favor that SECOND BUNCH o' jokers I mentioned here!!!

(and so, NOW if you'll excuse me here once again....
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

man...some things are better left unressurected. I just dont see how anyone can top or replaicate the classic comedy of the Three Stooges (regardless of which three it were).

Hollywood just may have gone too far now!

Any of the above for slapstick. But for clever wit, it had to be George and Gracie - Burns and Allen for the under 55-crowd.

Hey John...do me a favor here, dude! Hold up THREE fingers, and THEN fold each one back as you count off Stan and Ollie.

Okay dude. NOW, tell me...Do ya have one finger LEFT OVER that ya haven't folded down YET???

Ya SEE, I THINK we was talkin' comedy TRIOs here, my friend!!!

I mean GEEZ!!! How in the WORLD are we EVER GOING to hold ANY "serious discussions" here at BA.com...like in THIS CASE about The Three Stooges...IF people continue to HIJACK THREADS like THAT around HERE? HUH?!

You see, YOU should start actin' a little more LIKE ME 'round here!!! Yep!!! Do you ever catch ME ever doin' ANYTHING like THAT??? HUH??????!!!!!!

But, NOW that I THINK about it, I suppose it's alright afterall, 'cuz ya see...I kind'a like Laurel and Hardy myself TOO, dude!!!

And ahh, BTW! Ya know where ya said this TOO....

Well...THAT ain't exactly true EITHER there, ol' buddy!!!

I'd guess I've always liked BOTH o' those groups.

(but yeah...I suppose I would listen to a little more of the Fab Four then I would The Zep, if it came right down to it!)

I agree, this is just wrong! The only way it would be ok is to make a movie about their lives, not try to re-enact their old routines. I think it's a bomb here, the true stooge fans will not go see this.

Well ANYWAY, "erle", Let's get this STRAIGHT, or at least a little less crooked anyway! There's isn't ANYBODY at BA.com the LEAST BIT funny! And SOYtinly not that John "FREEDOM" character up there in Montana who keeps hijacking THREADS around here! Something OF COURSE I would never STOOP to doing myself!....though you might catch me on the PORCH doing that sometimes!

And NOW if you'll excuse me I'm going to get outta these wet clothes and slip into a dry martini!

Is this for real? Nobody could make the Stooge's stuff funny again. And that goes for most of the other combos also. Dumb ole hollywood bean counters. Just tryin to pick a late, sure fire formula that might make them some money.

I agree Rich, when Hollywood starts messing with the originals they usually get it wrong. And for the record, I like all the above slapstick comedians. Woob Woob Woob...Woob Woob.

Now if the Three Stooges were truly resurrected, that would be a SRO show stopper. They'd be have to hire Shirley Mclain or Nancy Reagen as their road manager. It'd be that big.

The good side of resurrecting old comedy routines is that it may appeal to a younger and new audience who in return will look at the original act.

Otherwise just let sleeping dogs lie. If their routines and films have faded into the past then they have done so because they are not relevant anymore or not understood.

However the comedy of the Marx bros and The Three Stooges is fairly timeless and can be appreciated by almost anyone of any age.
