120 if you're enthusiastic, 135 or so if you're being gentle. Last weekend my '04 was getting 48 mpg (and that was pretty quick highway miles to boot) so I got to 145 before hitting reserve.

When my bike was stock, I ALWAYS got 145-148 miles before having to hit reserve. Have gone another 10 miles on reserve, but never had to "find out" how many miles I "could" get on reserve. If you only get 120, SOMETHINGS SERIOUSLY WRONG!, no matter HOW you ride.

Trust me Erle, I can easily ride this thing where I only get 120 before reserve. And, I don't have to do anything wrong or even try hard, I just have to free up my right wrist and twist hard.
Lardie, I live way out in the country, too, and I'm pretty religious about trying to top off at 120 no matter what. This weekend I was in a pretty densely populated zone so I purposely went for reserve.

Is your bike stock (A.I.,pipes w/ baffels, tuned lean)?

I'm around 120. Done from 99 to 148. Depends on conditions. Also, my reserve is good for 31 miles. Documented.

When my bike was new, I always got exactly 150 miles before reserve. After monkeying around with pipes, jets, screws, I now get around 135.

Hmmm, I wonder how much of a difference the Pingel petcock is vs. the stock one. I have gotten 140+ with no windshield, and as low as mid 90's in the winter before reserve. I have also gotten more than 30 miles on reserve with windshield.

Hi Lardie , just for the record , we are talking about MILES , not KILOMETERS . Now it's all academic , since we don't know if you're carbed or FI'd . If you're carbed , just make sure the petcock is "ON" and not on "RESERVE" or that sputter will not be a gentle reminder to flick the lever . I clipped off and filed one leg of my petcock lever so it's "lopsided" , just a touch and I know if I'm on or reserved .

Ok you've heard from the fuel misers, now hear from the other side. I hit reserve anywhere from 100 to 115 miles. MPG anywhere from 30 to 37. When our gas prices went way up last year I really tried and got 44MPG. I figured out it's all about the 0-60MPH time. If you max that out every time, you get mileage like me. If you shortshift and use only half throttle to 60MPH, you get in the 40s. What's important to you?

I have to agree with Brian here. When i ride behind my dad (he rides a Road King) i get 50mpg. When i ride alone, i get high 30's. The difference is acceleration style and average speed. Obviously the HD is much slower.

How about some 08 or 09 EFI bikes? What mileage are you getting? I am still on my first tank of gas in my 09 BA so can't contribute yet.

Have 1200 miles on an '09 BA fuel injected. Getting an average of 46-48 MPG, speedo lofuel light winks at me at 160 miles straight up every time. Sometimes it winks and goes out as it appproaches 160 mi. But you still have at least forty miles (one gallon)left after the light goes on before you run dry.

My carb'd 08 with its large capacity FI tank would consistently do 190 miles to reserve when I first bought it. That was with a Roadster windshield. Now, with a larger Clearview windshield, lowers, less restrictive pipes and rejetting, reserve is about 150 miles. IOW, it's gone from nearly 50 mpg to about 38 mpg.

Here's an idea. Stop for fuel at a couple 120 intervals and see how much you have to put in to fill the tank. After awhile you'll get a feel for when you should stop for fuel and when you really better soon oughta stop for fuel. Mileage varies based on all the stuff mentioned above and then some. You gotta find out what yours is....

Or, alternatively, very right...and that depends on the bike, the mods, the terrain, the elevation, the traffic, & the rider...

I fill up at 150(miles). tank will take 3.2 gallons. I ride quite hard most of the time. I did notice when i filled up at certain stations, my mileage dropped pretty good. there was times where at 150 miles the bike took 4 gallons. (watered down, ethanol??? not really sure why)

270 kilometers or 169 miles to reserve on my first measured tank on my new 09 EFI America. This was on a RAT run with a mix of cruising and aggressive mountain twisties.

Yes, I made the assumption that he just bought a new, A.I. installed, stock pipes, stock jets, air box, lean tune, stock, stock, stock bike. Therefore, I said "somethings definitely wrong if he only got 120 miles to a tankfull, no matter HOW he rode", and I stand by that statement under those conditions. Like I said, when mine was "box stock", I rode it hard, to the rev. limiter alot, and still got 145-148 before reserve. (at +/- 100 ft.above sea level, on floridas mountainous roads ) Now that I have the 140 c.i. big bore, dual holley 1150's, supercharged, NOS, open headers, two speed, 10/60 sprocket combo, 10"rear tire, I'm only getting 3 mpg climbing sugarloaf mountain.
And you may see me tonight

Welcome, Lardie.
On my (carbed) 07 Speedie, I start looking for fuel about 130 miles. With the fuel prices fluctuating so much (not so much lately), I only add 13 litres at a time. TORS and 126 mains are my only performance mods.
That's a combination of cruising round town or A and B road blats. It's rare it sees the motorway.
Oh, and get yourself to Dent!!! (see Rides section)

On my '03, I start looking for fuel at 100 miles. Maybe it's because I used to drive airplanes, but I like to try to keep at least an hour reserve in the tank.

Last night I had to fill up at 100 miles. Put in just over 3 gallons. What can I do to get that number up? I wasn't riding very hard.
