And speaking of "The Great Thunderbird Controversy", OR I suppose, if you can't seem to get enough of this issue here....

How many of you have seen this YouTube page here?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2JicxA0yIc

Now, what I find the most interesting thing about that YouTube page are the comments made about the machine by the people there. And I think at least one of 'em is a member in good standing around here too.(Dennis, is that YOU???)

The comments seems to run between the "PRO"(as in something like.."It's about time Triumph went head-to-head against H-D and made a large displacement twin-cylinder crusier to compete with them"), and the "CON"(as in something like, "If I wanted a Harley, I'd buy a Harley. That isn't a 'real' Triumph!")

Man! And I STILL can't seem to figure out why this machine seems sooooo controversial to some???!!!

(except of course for that ONE little issue about...ummm...YOU KNOW!!!...but THAT'S a LITTLE issue!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I said if you put a P-twin in the bike chucklehead.

Tank indents are no longer on that current Harley or Triumphs. The Japanese cruisers have consoles. Triumph couldn't make up their mind so they used a console and bar mounted speedo.

That bike looks like a Harley but it also looks like a M50 that also looks like a modern America except for the P-twin. IMHO>

A Bonneville America does not look like a Speed Twin. A Bonneville or T100 does.

You've got to be kidding me. Maybe a T100 but the Speed twin never, ever had a single seat and the Bonnevilles never had a tank console.

Triumph made air cooled, chain driven, mechanical aspiration, mechanical speedometers, exposed shocks, and spoke wheels with tubed tires, with light bulbs instead of LED. They did all this 20 years after liquid cooling, drive shafts, soft tail designs, alloy wheels, tubeless tires and digital instrumentation, with LED, were introduced.

Our P-twins are not innovative in the least. They are not winning the awards, the Sprint and 675 are.

Our motorcycles are looking one way. Not forward or backward. They simply look cool. I love my bike. It is not trying to be anything other than what it is. "cool"

I can't imagine it ever being for sale for any reason other than food or health. I am its caretaker for life.

Did I mention I love my TBA?

Love my '02 Triumph Bonneville America too. Pretty sure I am going to love my 2010 Triumph Thunderbird as well. Different bikes, different years, same manufacturer. Thankfully the '02 TBA does not look like the '68 "basket case" Bonneville in the garage, or the '99 Thunderbird, or the '59 Tiger Cub, or the '71 Daytona, or '38 Speed Twin (similarities at best), or the '07 Daytona 675, and finally and thankfully, the 2010 Thunderbird. The list can go on an on and on and on... There are different manufacturing and engineering solutions as well as market and design considerations made by every motorcycle company through every make, model and year that they produce. I just happen to like most of Triumph's solutions to the problems and look forward to this new, "controversial" design. Like it or not, it is a Triumph motorcycle. It may not have things that you like. It may have things that you love. But this is an incarnation of the present day motorcycle company that is trying to exist and thrive in the present day market and not the summer of '69. I am glad they are trying different things to help keep the company viable, for a long time to come hopefully. If they weren't doing that I would not have my TBA to continue to love. That being said, I am counting the days until delivery!

I think it would have looked better with a clean tank & bar mounted mini tach & speedo.

I still like it & can't wait for Keith to let me take his for a spin!

Well that's good. There will be plenty of riding season left to give her a proper running in.
