After reading a related post, thought I'd vent one of my favorite peeves here. Idiot parking jerks. You know, the one's who park in a handicap spot. And the more common, "I think I'll park right here in front of the store, blocking the door, cause I'm just gonna be a minute, or two, or ten..." These types really burn me. They are too darn lazy to walk from the parking lot (usually less than 50 ft.) to the door of the store, and you have to actually walk around their car to enter the store! Rude and inconsiderate. I know, this is small beans. But just one more example of how the social more's of the country are unraveling.

We hear at least 3 pages a day of the sort, "Will the owner of a red Chevy pickup, license number XXX 555 please move your vehicle, it's blocking the commercial loading area". As for those who park in front of the door of a store, people should just crawl through if it is unlocked or over if it is. I saw a photo once of a BMW parked in front of a fire plug with the windows broken out and a 4 inch fire hose passed through. Of course, the coupling was a little leaky and the car was full of water. People who park blocking fuel pumps would stop if they came out and found hose scuff marks on their paint from people pulling up close beside them and filling up by stretching the hose across their car.

I have almost completely lost faith in the human race. Couldn't agree with you more. I could state examples all day regarding the decline of these social mores

The area I work in has some horrible roads to try and negotiate an ambulance through. It's made worse by people who just park so inconsiderately.
What's worse is when you are on a call are drivers who give us grief because we end up blocking the road because we can't park anywhere else.
We had one woman fling open the back door of the vehicle and start giving us hassle because she couldn't get into the school entrance to pick her kid up.
Well we couldn't get into the school entrance either but we had a kid on the back who we were treating after falling off a climbing frame.
It was quite ironic though that after a tirade of abuse she saw the kids arm and went white and looked a bit queasy.
Faith in humananity was somewhat restored afte hearing the amount of abuse she was getting off some of the other mothers as we pulled away.
It just seems at times as though the motor vehicle has turned us into awful people.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

I confess that I really liked all of those solutions. More than a few times, an idiot has left his car RUNNING while parked in front of the door. I was SOOOO tempted to just slide in behind the wheel, put it in gear and pull it around to the hidden side of the building! They would have freaked out. But in every situation that I can think of that involves retaliation, I'd probably be the one who got arrested. Once, after my small child got away from me and "threaded" his way past a car in front of the doors, I panicked and lunged for the errent said child. I quickly saw that no passing car would see him cause the parked car blocked clear sight of the door. I went inside to complain to the manager (local grocery store, where it is a steady problem) and he just shrugged and said, "I don't want to upset any shoppers!" I wondered how he would wiggle if someone's kid got run over... He'd say something like, while wringing his hands... " the lane is clearly marked!, fire lane, and I can't do anything about it!..."

The not seeing a small child thing is something I never thought of!! Yow... That could be rough. I'd be tempted to wait for the person and give them an earfull. It does bug me how people seem to think that because they are in their car it's ok. Or that their business is somehow, not only more important than mine, but so important that they can block EVERYONE. The worst is when people park along the curb, AND right across from that along the regular parking spots, necking the lane down to barely one car wide!! I was once parked in behind my highschool. The person had left their keys in the car, so I moved it.

I always see parked cars running with a kid or two in the back seat, but no adult present. Makes me want to call the police, but I know they wouldn't get there in time to get the a-hole anyway.

I hate the handicapped parking thing too. I have disabled friends who really need it and many times have no parking due to some a$$holes that are perfectly fine parked in the spots. Kids should never be left unattended in a public place let alone in a running car! Not only should they be attended but someone needs to tell some of those parents that they should be controlled and made to behave in a manner befitting a public place.
I also hate people who litter and here the powers that be have tried to do something about it. Now if you call the police and report someone throwing litter out of the car and provide a lic. number that person gets a $500 fine in the mail. It was done with good intentions but I can see it being abused by pranksters and people with grudges.

That's a 911 call in Vegas. They take it very seriously.
If the car is empty and running, lock it.

I work as a carer for the intellectually disabled and frequently use disabled parking spots, as I try to herd three clients who all want to sprint/stagger/fall in different directions. When I spot people using handicapped parking spots without a permit I'm always sorely tempted to key a handicapped symbol into their door or hood... usually I just go complain to the centre management though.

This is along the same lines as the thread about "common sense" "manners" etc. a few weeks ago. I run some errands every Tuesday. It just turned out that way for some reason. Tuesday happens to be the day that the retired and elderly get their checks. So I see a lot of them at the shopping center when I am erranding.(?). You would be amazed at the cretins who park in the wrong places, blow their horns, and sometimes nearly run these people over just because they are in a big hurry. I park far away because I can still walk - they need the closer spots more than I do. I open doors, push their carts, carry their groceries, load them into their vehicles - whatever needs done. That's how I was raised. When I do it with my riding jacket on and my helmet in hand, it sends a different message than they normally get about bike riders..... It won't be too long before I am them - I'll probably join the electric scooter website then and ****** like we do here.....

I was at Wal Mart last summer as an example. Wendy is disabled and we don't park in the handicapped spots since she isn't that bad yet. She has her days though and this particular day was one of them. Her back was bothering her quite a bit so I went out and got the truck and pulled up in front of the store to wait for her to come out. Now I was across from the entrance and out of the walking path against the curb across the street from the entrance. (not really a street but the driveway in front of the store.) I wasn't blocking anyone or causing any kind of hazard and I was next to the handicapped spots but there was still a small island of plants between me and those spots. The rent a cop comes up and starts trying to tell me to move. Now I know there is nothing he can do and the police won't do anything to me either so I refuse and roll up my window and turn up the music while waiting for Wendy. If there had been an open handicapped spot I would have waited there. Once Wendy came out I pointed her out to the rent a cop and went off on him about the spots all being full and only 1 had any kind of handicapped ID. No handicapped plates and just 1 card hanging from a mirror. There are I think 8 maybe more at each entrance and none open. He said there was nothing he could do to stop people from parking in those spots. The expectant mother spots are always full too. It was very irritating that he gave me a hard time when I had a good reason to be there when he doesn't even say anything to the clowns filling up the handicapped spots.

I pointed to her WALKING to the car, and he finally left me alone. How bout get your dam hands off my car!!!

They had the same problem at the big shopping centre here with handicap parking ,so the centre management gave the local council (county)the rights to patrol and fine wrong does and issue ticket`s for infringement`s , it has worked really well , over time stayers get ticket`s as well

Gary and I go to the LAFitness club to work out every day, there are 4 parking spots for motorcycles only, of course they are always full of cages, last week I fussed at one guy and he said, I always park here!!!! then today as I was entering , a cage took the spot, this time I just told her that it was for motorcycles only she actually backed out and gave me the spot but told me that all the others park their cars there.........grrrrr........ we used to be able to pull up to front of building until some unescorted kid decided the bikes were pretty and he burned himself by touching the exhaust pipes......We had our truck broken there at 10:30 am so I get paranoid about parking our bikes in the back where anyone could take them. Management has promised new signs to tell folks but thats been months....................

Ian, maybe you could have Wendy's Dr. get her a handicap permit. In OK. the request just needs a Dr. signature and the Dr. office sends in the paperwork. They used to charge a dollar but now that has been waived. I got one for my Dad who is 88 and uses a walker. What kind of steams me though, is obese people who get one to be closer do the door. I can understand if there are health reasons involved. There are 5 spots outside my offce building. One employee is truly disabled the other 4 are overweight people who park there. Like I said it is easy to get a permit here.

I appreciate the advice but she doesn't want one. That's why she doesn't have one. Too her that is just a sign of how bad she is getting. Most days, even that day, she really doesn't need it yet but I was trying to be nice and bring the truck up so she didn't have to walk so far to ease her pain.

I'm no sure if this is a hijack or not, but it seem to go with the flow of the rest of this later stuff. When the wife and I was in Mouseland last summer, I noticed an interesting trend. Lots of people were renting and bringing these LARGE strollers to push their 7 and 8 year olds around the park! And it wasn't cause the litte angels were too tired, this was at the entrance to the park. After Mom pushed them to the line at the ride, the kids would hop out and wait with them to go in. I found this kinda unbelievable! I just wanted to shout out "Hey MOM, LET THE LITTLE ANGELS GET SOME EXCERCISE ALREADY!"
