She Who Must Be Obeyed arrived home today with a foundling -a 10 week old Labrador/Husky-cross bit.ch that friends have to give away. I agreed to keep the dog - we've got 6 acres of runaround land - but the dog's present name is Timber -Lee. Ugh. I suggested "Bonnie" of course, but was shot down. My other favourite is Daytona, short for Daytona Bit.ch Any suggestions from the wise population here? Let the names begin................ Pedro

Keep it simple for both you and the dog. Shorten it to Lee.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I have a 90 lb female Siberian Husky that loves to "sing." She and the Husky mix down the street serenade the neighborhood once a day or so. She seems to really enjoy it but I'm not so sure about the neighbors. I got her when she was about a year old. The previous owner had named her a long complicated name, I've since forgotten, that ended in lani. I shortened it to Lani and she never noticed. Here she is starting her spring molt standing behind Rusty the Chow mix right after he got his summer haircut a few years ago.

I first thought of Bonnie America , just America for short, or even BonAm. I bet soon you will find a good name that perfectly fits her.

Ya know Pedro, to tell ya the truth, the more I think about this the more I kind'a LIKE the name "Timber". Yep! And IF you change your mind and decide to keep her named that, just be sure to keep her away from THESE GUYS... http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=0#Post378752...'cause if you DON'T, doggone it, you COULD just find your doggone dog gone, one day!!! (sorry ...but YEAH, I REALLY DO think "Timber" is a pretty cool name alright!)

I suck at naming things, including dogs, so I leave it to the professionals. This site lists the 100 most popular dognames www.petrix.com/dognames/ But what's wrong with Bonnie???

How about DOG. Except, use the pronounciation as if you were spelling it: "DeeOhGee" with emphasis on the Oh syllable of the word.

I had a pup, well a stray, that some misguided brave soul(s) going down the highway saw fit to stop, let him out in front of a co-workers house & drive on.... Upon request I stopped by 2 days later. I pulled in, the 12 year old daughter marches up & says "So, do you want him?" The kids called him Scarface due to a wire scar across the nose. I figured that name would give him a "complex" of somesort, so I temporarily called him "Pup". Then never got back to giving him a proper Christian name, so he remained "Pup" for the next 13 years. jh

My dogs all get named but never get called that in the end. They all end up with a nick name like Laddie my collie shepard I used to have. He tended to roll in stuff and smell fairly bad most of the time so we called him Stink or Poopin and he was happy answering to either. same type of thing for every dog I have ever had, they kind of reveal their inner self and that's what they end up being called.
EDIT: By the way don't get the wrong idea about Stinky Boy, he was a great and loveable member of our family and still sorely missed.

We had one named Dummy once, because my dad threw him a bone and the dog peed on it, then ate it when he realized what it was! His show name was Gentleman's Jack Dandy.

Girl Dog = Daisy (What can I say? I like Daisy Fuentes) Boy Dog = Jack (Jack Lambert - No explanation needed for Steelers fans.)
That was my plan anyway. Except when the time came to rescue the Yellow Lab from the pound... he was already named Cody. Cody fit - so we kept that name.

+1 on the multinames. Rusty(Setter)became Rip, Cindy(Eng. Setter) became Pooper, Bosun Molly(Black Lab)became Boatman, Stowe(Yellow lab)became Stoeffer, and my Gunner(Black Lab)became Gubulator. Collectively they were "Stink Dogs",and we loved 'em to pieces.
Most Native American tribes typically bestow character based names upon their young as soon as their attributes become evident. Maybe they were on to something. I just know I miss my Buddies sorely.

Well, it was a short-lived exercise. Thanks for all the suggested names (Dumptruck????) but we had to take the puppy back - as much as my wife loves dogs, her allergies just can't handle it any more.
But the good news is that the owners realized that with a little effort on their part, and getting some proper training, they can keep the dog. Turns out they missed her just as much as we want to keep her.
Maybe instead of buying materials for a kennel and run, I can spring for a tach, clock and centre-stand.
Thanks for the input Pedro

Good lord have mercy that got me to thinking (and laughing)... my Black Lab is named Guiness... but he answers to Stinkel, Dingle and Bool. Cats: Josephine (jogie, zsa, phiney), Patches (pahsie, reset), Midnight (ninnernanner, me, Bad A$$... cat has serious anger management issues, Horses come ready made for nicknames, they aren't ever called the registered name except at shows: Make a Claim (Thursday), Sail Away (Cappy). Legacy of Colors (Legs)
