Anyone have any experience with them? I'm looking for something affordable and quieter than my totally gutted TOR's. I did search for some info but did not find any that talked about how loud these might be.

http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/audio_video/jango_whitneys.mpg is in the audio/video section. Jango posted a video of JC Whitney pipes there. Please reply here as to how that video sounds in comparison to your gutted pipes.

You could try installing a pair of the 4" long, 1-3/4" baffles that Dog suggested to me. I have a pair on order now with J&P, gonna install 'em in my gutted stock pipes. Not sure exactly how they'll sound, but it's sure to be a cheaper solution than new pipes.

I can tell you that with drag pipes they don't make much difference sound wise. Some but not very much. The effect will probably be more with a longer pipe though, let me know what your results are.

good luck! i waited for 2 months for baffles from j&p before they told me they were out of stock with no re-stock date. they did refund all my money quickly when i cancelled the order.

Dog, I got 'em installed this evening, but I did it a little differently than originally planned. As it turns out, the large end of the 4" baffles is a good fit inside the first part of the reducer cone if you install them "backwards." The baffle will slide in about 3/4" before it hits the necked-down area. Of course, once it's in there, you can't install the nut and bolt. I solved that problem by asking a friend to weld the nuts into the baffles. Then I just had to drill a hole through the pipes for the baffle bolt and install the bolt from the outside. The small perforated end of the baffles sticks out of the pipes into the headers about 2-1/2", but that doesn't cause any problems.
The sound is pretty much what I expected. I had a pair of homemade baffles in there for a few days, and they produced a similar effect. Unfortunately, the homemade versions fell apart 'cause I forgot that exhaust gas is hot enough to melt solder. Doh! Anyway, without the baffles, the pipes are pretty obvious as being open. At idle, they have the watery echo that's characteristic of open pipes. The baffles remove that sound and they also quiet the pipes, but just a little. The idle is nice and throaty (same for decel, with very little popping), and the upper RPMs at highway speeds don't produce that high-pitched wail like the TORS. Acceleration through the gears is a blast. The bike is still very loud, but it's gone from "Danm I've got a headache.. can ya hear me... what???" to "Hey, is that a cop?" Seriously, I like the sound a lot, but these might still be loud enough to get a ticket. I'll just need to ride awhile and see what happens. Tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

I ran the same pipes with the turnout turned down towards the pavement. Freaking awesome sound. I received a ton of positive commits from lots of owners. Most every Triumph owner seemed to love it......Until I road the thing for five solid hours on the slab and five solid coming back with a shorty helmet on. Wow my head rung for three days. I felt like I'd been on the front row of a Ted Nugent show. I sold them bad boys in two weeks. And I still miss the he11 out of em. Mike

Yeah, when these are open, gutted all the way through, they're extremely loud. Even the way they are now, I wouldn't use 'em if I had to ride more than a half hour each way to work. I'm lucky because I have a second set with only the first two baffles out. Those are much better for cruising long distances. The sound level is close to that of stock bikes from the late '60s - early '70s.
