Many years ago I went a long long way on my bike. Bought a removable shield. Major difference! I rode twice as far with 1/2 the hurt because of that shield. Driving in the right lane on the Black Horse Pike in New Jersey when an 18 wheeler blew by me in the same direction. The wind acted like a sail from the other direction dragging me nearly out of control. When I got home the shield left the bike. Have not driven with one since. Turned it into a 40 MPH knee slapper for a bit and was very unfun.
Now I compensate by running 20 or so miles at 70-75 then slow to 55-60 for a few miles to relax a bit. I can't go more than about 125 miles anyhow without a gas stop, that gives you the break you need.
To each his own, the big thing is to ride and have fun. Its all about the fun. Motorcycles are not practical. Thats not why we have them. Well thats not why I have one anyhow.
Remember: You can tell a happy biker by the bugs in his teeth.
