 Fork spring replacement - Help!!

OK, doing a complete fork-off spring replacement. Got the oil and new springs in after compressing the fork to measure the oil level. All good to now. Trying to extend the fork to insert the spacer and the thing will not budge. Am I missing something here??

Give the lower leg a twist while you're pulling down and it should slip free.

No luck Ed. The lower and upper twist freely but the upper still won't pull out. Even stuck the axle in and stood on it while trying to pull up and not and inch of movement. Back to the garage to try again.

I could be wrong but I thought that when I did mine (2 years ago...) that I had to push down on the spring and cap to get it on. The spring sat out of the tube about 1-2 inches? Hope this helps???

Yeah, the other side (which went fine BTW) had the spacer sticking out a bit when I screwed the cap back on, but this fork just isn't moving at all out of fully compressed. I now have the spring out and have drained the oil to try and start from scratch and the sucker is still compressed all the way. Don't suppose I could ride with just one fork, could I???

You might have to put it back in the triple tree and give the lower a love tap with a plastic mallet...

If it's "hypercompressed" it can get in a mechanical bind . Telescoping things tend to stick together when they go beyond the range of motion the're used to .
Love taps can progress into ragesmash .

I had the same problem a few years back. Put the forks back on the bike - put the axle in and hit the axil with a rubber mallot. That will bring it down.
