That's where it would show up.
There is no gear oil. The engine, clutch, and tranny all
share the same oil.
+1 on the chain lube issue. There is no gear lube in or on your bike unless you are spraying 90 weight on your chain. Actually any oil flinging off your chain from the drive sproket will accumulate here. It looks exactly like what you described.
