I must say that yep he wasn't exactly thinking right at the time but when you consider some of the things that people have NOT been locked up for then this does seem a bit excessive.
Has he abused or beaten the kid up? I'm sure that the kid had a whale of a time on the back and was bragging about it to his mates at school.
Losing his licence is penalty enough me thinks because of the effect it will have on him and as a taxpayers we won't have to fork out for him behind bars.
I would say leave jail sentences to people who are a menace to society and make people who do stupid things pay for it in other ways.
