They rode the near production bike. Really only one new news item - "(but not finalized) 680-pound dry weight". They also said that Triumph exceeded the goal of 80 Hp and 100 foot pounds of torque- official numbers await final emissions homologation.
They were impressed with power response in all gears and said the 1600 was "more than competitive with all the American and Japanese offerings".
I was glad to read that what appears to be stock pipes on the bike had a "pleasing sound" and "it does sound good" with "loads of bottom end torque".
"The only real limitation on a winding road is the cornering clearance, but the T-bird leans adequately. Braking performance is strong.
"Between 1800-3500 rpm, the engine is alive with torque; the bike lunges forward with significant snap".
"The engine can be brought down to near ideal (800 rpm) in most gears an pull away cleanly".
"From 1400 rpm, even in 6th gear, roll on the throttle and you just go".
I cant wait!

Sounds encouraging. I am gonna test ride one as soon as my body heals sufficiently and they hit the dealer

My god, I hope they exceeded that goal with 1600 cc's. I plan on hitting 80rwhp this year with a 904

I think they went just over 92 BHP and exceeded 100 in the torque arena

All in all, a pretty good report. It is a very nice looking bike.

Yep, I agree Mark. Overall, a very nice looking bike! EXCEPT, of course, for ONE particular minor little aesthetic design flaw.

(hey, gimme a break here...AT LEAST I'm comin' around about the REST of this new machine here, AND am starting to regulate that "one particular aesthetic design flaw" to the "minor little" category, RIGHT?! ....ESPECIALLY on that REALLY NICE lookin' blue and white one!!!)

What's our's? I know the GVWR is something like 990 lbs. Not sure what dry weight is.

500 lbs., not counting of course saddlebags, light bars, and other add-on baubles. 504 lbs., I think, if you want to get that technical.

Lighter is nimbler and better, I think - especially when it is as quick as ours are against the competition already.

I can't wait to see it and ride it myself, but I still can't see trading in my SM for a 200 lb. heavier bike that may not have as much lean angle, either. I can pick mine up if I do drop it.

Not for nothing, but the Rocket has 24 more lbs. and at least 40 more hp. And almost 50 more ft. lbs. of torque.

Now don't go all crazy on me-just havin' fun. Looks like a nice bike-I know several who are looking very hard to purchase on and trade in their 865's.

I noticed they did'nt provied a center stand again. It looks like the pipes are below the frame rails, could be a problem to raise the bike with our Sears type jacks. Not a deal breaker, just the first of many little problems to be sorted.

One thing I was happy to read was the six speed tranny, (which I could not see a reason for another gear) is an overdrive, which now makes sense.

I cant wait to see one in person. Mine will need some decent saddlebags, engine guards, highway pegs and a good funtional windscreen. I wonder how long we will have to wait for aftermarket vendors to address the t-bird?

the pipes on the stock bike are pleasing supposedly but if they are not load enough I will want something better.

Finally got to see the T-bird and sit on it to get a first impression. Shorter wheel base than the BA/SM (14mm), foot controls a bit further back, well balanced. Looked smaller IRL than expected. Rear end looking pretty light and thin (but I'm partial to full fenders).

Verdict? Well, I'm not really jumping up and down all excited and don't feel the urge to change my -02 TBA into a T-bird. Maybe a test ride will change this? My .02...

Not bad but it could have a more "Triumph" look to it.Just changing that pathetic little tank badge with a real Triumph one would work wonders. Will get one eventually but will wait for a little feedback first after they been out for a spell. My Speedmaster could use some company in my garage, gets a little lonely some times.I wish there was a sound clip somewhere to hear this beast!

I sat on that black one with all the options while in Daytona. The windshield was HUGE and right in my line of sight (I'm 6'). I also don't understand why Triumph would go the way of all the Japanese bikes and almost hide the brand name. They definitely should put a bigger tank logo on the bike. It certainly doesn't have near the Triumph "look" of my America.

It actually made me love my bike even more after seeing all 4 of them. I'd still like to ride one. It would be noticeably more torque than my BB.

Looks like the Thunderbird has its own factory website,if you go to the Triumph mainpage and click the Thunderbird image.Has a intro sound clip that has a nice rumble to it.If thats how it sounds with the factory pipes, would be more than happy with it.
