with the speedy o4 model with carbies
pods 48 pilots and 145 mains
cruising along it 5th all is fine up to about 80kph then the power die's away and sounds like she's firing on 1 cylinder get to 100kph and she come's alive again
its got me buggered thought it may be fuel pulled the carbies they were clean removed jets and blew with compressed air
reassembled and no difference
checked the plugs and coil leads
adjusted the mixture screws still no difference
sprayed all around the carbies with lanon checking for air leaks and found nothing
checked the diapharm the carbies no holes in them
so could it be coils, tps?or maybe the ingitor even hope noti hear their a expensive item to replace
Benny

Could be an igniter.. kinda doubt it's a coil but you might check the air gap of the pick up coil. Read about it in the Tech Vault .

You already ditched the hidden fuel filter?

The airgap is easy to check/adjust.
It helps to have a Shop Manual.
Remove the right side engine case.
At about the 11 o'clock position on the rotor, you'll see the sensor.
A couple spots on the rotor stick up higher than the rest.
These are the triggers. Align one of them under the sensor and get out your feeler gauges.
The gap should be 0.8mm.
leave the bike on the sidestand instead of using a bike lift
and you won't lose any oil.

But, unfortunately, it sounds like your ignitor.
If you have a mate with an BA or Speedy, swap ignitors w/him
to see if your problem goes away.

Just a guess

That's about where the slide opens. hold it in the bad range for a bit, shut off the engine and pull in the clutch. Stop and take a look at the sparkplugs and see if it is running rich or lean. In the bad range, you are probably running on the transition jets drilled in the bottom of the carb throat. If it is rich, go to a smaller pilot jet, if lean, a bigger one.

It might be the ignitor, though when mine went, it went 100%. Thought I had run out of gas. At $600 for an ignitor, wish I had. I agree with BrianT, if you can find a bud who will swap out his igniter for yours, do that and hopefully you can move on to another problem. Because of the intermittent problem, while running, I put my bucks on the fuel system somewhere.

If you do need a new ignitor give the guys at Pure Triumph a call before you order anything from Team Ripoff.

no i havent ditched the hidden fuel filter
cruise along all day @120kph and theirs not a problem at all so i dont think its lack of fuel
she's playing up between say 3-4000rpm if it was a starving at that rev i would have thought she'd be starving at a rev range about that
ummm i think that makes sence

Mine affected the higher RPMs. Tried a different set of pipes, couldn't figure out why top speed was down around 80 MPH. Didn't miss or anything, just wouldn't go any faster. Re-jetted, back to old pipes, jetted again, was stumped until I pulled that little filter and installed an in-line.
Not the same symptoms you're describing.

What's your elevation, and what pipes are you running?
I'm thinking you could be running lean. Sounds similar to something i ran into at one time. Bigger mains fixed it.

went for a ride today 300k's got to a top of 36ish degree's here a little warm yes
at 2500rpm both plugs were a tanish colour
at 3500rpm left plug was still the same colour while the right plug was allmost black
at 4500rpm both plugs were a tanish colour again
whats the chance of the right hand coil breaking down at a specific rpm?
didnt think to swap the coils over to see if the problem followed the coil besides i had no tools with me to do something like that

I wonder if you may have a sticky slide or damaged diaphram. The problem sounds more like fuel to me since it is only the one cyl. and it happens at about 3500 rpm and then clears out after that. Did you check to see if that is more or less what it does all the time or only check once? I would think a bad coil would give you a problem at other rpms too. I would pull the top off the right carb and check that the needle is seated right and the diaphram is in good shape and that the slide moves freely.

I'm honestly not sure on these carbs since everything I have run up to my new bike has had cable operated slides. My thinking is that the slide isn't opening when it should but the butterfly is open drawing fuel, but the slide isn't letting enough air in, especially at such a low RPM since the main isn't in full play yet.Sort of acting like a choke on the old Amals.

well people its not electrical
spent the afternoon having a play spark plug on the right hand side :i can get it to change to any colour you want with the mixture screw
left hand plug now thats a different story:weather it be 1/2 a turn out or 5 turns out the colour dont change after 5k's @ 90kph
at idel tho with the right hand plug dicconected screw the mixture in and the revs pick up screw it out and the revs falls back down
looks like i'll be removeing them "again" and have another go at cleaning them out

ED,Ian and everyone else thanks for all the help problem solved
while i waited for a set of coils to turn up from roadworthy (thanks again Dave) i had a play allway's relied on the bike show to balance the carb's big mistake that turned out to be,made a manometer on the weekend and checked it myself (not as hard as i thought it would be) when fitted and bike running, left hand carb was pulling fluid about 10" higher then the right hand side adjusted the screw to level them out ,went for a ride and the difference was hard to believe.
1 thing tho.....
with the meter hooked up bike running, fluid level the same for both carb's at idle....
i ran the rev's up slowly to about 4 grand 1 side lifted higher then the other say 1" no more then that so about 1/2" off the level mark is this something to worry about?
again thank you

I never can get them exactly equal at higher RPMs so I'd be pretty satisfied with a 1/2" difference.

Same on my Speedmaster. I used a home made Manometer filled with 2 stroke oil. It is very sensitive, I could't get them exactly the same at tickover (1/2 inch difference). When I increase the revs it goes 1/2 inch the other way. With oil being so much lighter I imagine this is very close compared to a mercury filled gauge.
