John, I used Simple Green initially, which does work great. Only caution is I had read a post on this forum on extensive testing Simple Green caused pitting on stainless steel. Our spokes are stainless so I decided to quit using. I'm still looking for the best safe product for cleaning the laced wheels as well as other dirt and grime on the engine.
