I recorded a short sound clip of sound of my bike. I have Staintune exhaust on a 2003 Speedmaster. The mic was about 3 feet behind the rear fender at about seat level. I would be glad to send it to anyone who wants it. If anyone could tell me how to post it to ba.com I would do that too. Can I post sound files??? Maybe someone has a web site to post it and would put a link here.

Today was a very nice day for late December, but still too sloppy to ride. I fired up the bike in the garage and ran it for about 20 minutes, just to keep the cylindars oiled and the gas cycled through the carbs. I took the laptop down to the garage and recorded a 60 second clip. The bike was just sitting on the kickstand, and the engine had no load, but it would give you an idea of the tone of the pipes. I start the bike, run it up to around 4000 rpms and hold it there for a few seconds, idle down, rev it to around 6000 and then back to idle. The file is an mp3 file with an m4a extension. (519kb) Converted from .wav to .m4a with iTunes.

I don't have any experience with the Thunderbike pipes so I can't comment on them. They weren't available when when I bought mine. I like my Staintunes. My dealer sold me on them. He was pushing the durability of stainless steel, and that they had a deep throaty sound, but not obnoxiously loud. That was the combo I was looking for. The only downside I can see is the price, but then stainless is more expensive than regular steel. My bike is my baby. I don't skimp there.

I'll send the sound file to your email address. It's big, but I see you are on cable so it should be a quick download. Keep in mind that there was no load on the engine when I recorded the sound. I might try to get a better recording when the snow goes away. What I really like is cruising about 65 with the wind to my back, and the engine just purrs. It's cool.
