http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/transport/article334686.eceBig brother will soon be watching where you go anyway. Of course, if the realtime clock on one of the cameras drifts a bit and puts an inacurate timestamp on its report of your passage, it could get you a false, hard to fight speeding ticket. "Yasss yer 'onnor, here is a report of his being at intersection A headed in the direction of intersection B. Then, the camera at interection B reported the same bloke passing in the same direction 2 minutes earlier. This is irrefutable proof that he was traveling at a rate of at least warp 12."

Hi Ed
Now that is frightening, so they will know where I am at what given time, speed travelled, whether the bike is licenced, Insured and MOT'd.
Not good!!!!

Here we go again. Giving up civil liberties under the guise of being safe.
The home of the safe and the land of the whimps.

What really scares me is the fact that a good hacker WILL access this type system. Then, once in the system, run a bogus command that tickets what ever they want. The courts will not even question the data they have. I know this cause I used to set up systems like this!!!

What Orwell missed however, is the fact that the new tech can be used as a defence! Big Brother is very slow on this. For instance, one of my companies is developing an application for cellphones that uses GPS to track our vans through the drivers cellphone. Now send me a ticket!!! I will beat it in court and prove the court systems crap is in fact, crap!! If you lay down and buy the stuff Unca Sammy sells you, then it's your fault!!! Cry me a river later on.

If any male born after 1959 carefully lifts their scrotum they can plainly see a "bar code" when using a hand-held mirror.
The Bavarian Illuminati has been using this method to "track" our off-spring since the Kennedy administration.

John Bull (I wonder if the person who coined that term was aware of what the bull part could mean?) is doing this one. Sam is using a different system, making the on board computers in cars record everything including max and average speed (at the expense of the person buying the car of course) and downloading all when you get your mandatory emissions (and law breaking) test. I think it may also note long periods of sitting with the engine idling to single out 'getaway' drivers and those who use the 405 freeway.

Well I always wondered what those wiggly lines were round the scrotum, "I thought it was old age, catching up"?

As it is now, with fast lane or EZ pass in theory they can get a time stamp as to when you go from toll to toll and do the math...

Slight delay here, I didn't read this post first time around just before Christmas.
This is another 'stealth tax' by our friendly government Department of Highway Robbery. The DHR has said it will freeze all installations of new speed cameras. Why? Because they know the sat-nav system is coming. Why spend money on new cameras now when they won't be needed in a few months?
When this was announced on tv, the guy hadn't even finished talking when I piped up. OK, the government will bill people for the road time they use. I suppose, fair enough. My Dad does about 3000 miles a year, I do around 30,000 - why should he pay the same as me?
My issue is this. Basic schoolboy physics: speed = distance divided by time.
'They' know your distance (obviously, that's the purpose of the thing to start with). They can do the time stuff easy. Divide speed by distance and the sat-nav will pin-point which road you are on (and it's official speed at that point!!) you will get a speeding ticket in the post without the need for speed cameras - fixed or mobile!
Simple!

Eventually, for the "convenience" of the citizens of course, they will link that to the banking network and do an automatic fund transfer from your bank account to pay the fine. I don't know if it has caught on in the UK yet, but they have an interesting custom here. They couldn't get away with drastic increases in fines to pay for the political excesses, especially for such minor things as parking too long, so they imposed a "penalty asssessment" on the order of 250%. That means a $50 fine really costs you $175! Can you say "Bend over and hold onto your hat"?

The solution to the EZ Pass problem is stop for gass/bathroom in the middle somewhere. I'm told they're already practicing this sort've thign on the NJ Turnpike (bastards) but... We'll see. I think they'll see a marked decline in EZ Pass usage if they do this. --Jaeger

Of course not! What were you thinking? But, he will have more time for fish and chips and chasing the meter maids around the office.
