Went to my established but not often visited Triumph Thunderbird E-club Site today and there was the email from Triumph suggesting I put in the order today for the thunderbird.

I forwarded the message to my dealer rep and he said he had already put my order in and he would be sending me the confirmation.

My breakin ride witht he new Bike will be about 508 miles since I will have already moved south by the end of June.

Gary

Baxter Cycles got my form sent in. I'm excited to have it all official, but I'm disappointed in the (lack of) color choices. Considering what a big deal Triumph has made out of this bike being super-customizable, three color options isn't much.

I'm going with Jet Black and figure I can get a body shop to add some Sunset Red to the tank to spice it up for me!

Yep, had a voice mail on my machine last night from my dealership to stop in and fill out the forms. Very exciting. Now the attempt at being patient grows even more difficult.

Good luck with the purchase!

I may consider it but you'll have to catch me first.
Even though I was settled on all black before I ever saw the first Thunderbird, I am surprised with the lack of options. I realy can't get close to that aluminum option one at all. Is that supposed to be like the first HD V-rod!
I would concider the Blue but the white stipe is not my style. As you say Matt color options are kind of disapointing but for me all Black is outstanding and works best with the custom stainless steel pieces I will be making for the bike.
Matt (Ne), Keith (IL) and Myself(Ca) - This appears to be the start of a list of people who have put their orders in for a 2010 Thunderbird. Lets keep it going. Who will get their's first? I'm keeping a spot clean in my garage for parking my Speedmaster when the Thunderbird arrives. My sales rep said its scheduled for June delivery (when in June I want to know?).

I stopped at Hermey's in PA on Monday. Asked them about the bike. They said they could't take any money on one since they had no idea on the release date. Same day, that email arrived from Triumph. I guess the dealers are always last to know these days.
Good luck - definitely post your comments on that first ride!

I'm getting Jet Black. I'd rather black with sunset red, or any color for that matter. Too bad they don't offer a better color selection...

Triumph’s new cruiser to arrive earlier than expected

Powersports Business
Friday February 27, 2009

Triumph’s new cruiser, the Thunderbird, will arrive in dealer showrooms sooner than expected, the company said.

Triumph said the cruisers should arrive in North American by late June, two months ahead of the initial timeline.

The Thunderbird features a 1,600cc parallel twin engine, six-speed transmission and 200mm rear tire.

Triumph said its air-freighting four prototype Thunderbirds to Daytona Bike Week for display at the Triumph Demo Truck, which will be located at Daytona International Speedway.

I have seen 3. One silver, one Blue-white, and one jet black. The jet black model is a in the two-up cruising mode with a ton of accessories, while the other two are sportier, solo models. I kind of prefer the two-up model, but I will say that it is better in person than in the photos. Triumph persons on-site who have ridden the Tbird say that it is fantastic. I am sure they wouldn't lie! Riding position is identical to the America save the wider tank. There are going to be tons and tons of really nice accessories for this model. I would certainly enjoy riding this bike, but if I were going back into the twin market, I would get the Bonnie SE!

I just got back from Daytona and saw all 4 of the Thunderbirds. 1 black one at the dealer and the 3 mentioned above at the Speedway. I sat on all but the blue/white on the turnstile display. It had low sport type handlebars that didn't seem to look right to me.

I liked the black one at the dealer the best as it would be like most you will see in the showroom, i.e. not loaded down with accessories. It does look better in person, but the really wide tank is strange sitting on it. I guess you would get used to it like new clunky shoes.

The fully dressed black one was almost overdone for me. The windshield was way too big and the top edge was right in my line of sight (I'm 6'). All but one of them had the chrome belt guard which I don't like on the bike. It doesn't look right with the upswept pipe on the right side. I would prefer it black - same with the radiator. The dressed bike had the radiator chromed and that's something that doesn't need attention drawn to it. They did a good job of fitting it between the pipes and black doesn't distract.

I'm glad I got to see them because I've been thinking about the possibility of owning one. But after seeing them, I'm even happier with my tricked out America that's exactly the way I want it. The dealer said Triumph plans to offer a 1700 upgrade/swap with full 2 year warranty - don't know how much more. At stock the bike is a little low on hp for it's size, but obviously, if you did as much to it as I've done to my TA, it would be up there.

I'd love to ride one when that's possible but doubt I'll be giving up my bike any time soon. It took me almost 3 years to get it the way it is now. Quick, light, and with the classic Triumph look. After 3.5 years, still exceeds my original expectations.

I noticed they did'nt provide for a center stand again. The frame rails seem to be above the pipes so we'll have to raise the bike on the pipes with our Sears jacks.

One of the guy`s here noticed and confirmed with the TRIUMPH guy that they have no barrel`s , if and when a re bore is needed the cases will need to be split
Don'T know if that is a great idea

"....the cases will need to be split....."

Unless it has drop in cylinder liners like the 3 cyl water cooled bikes (885, 955).

Then it's just a case of popping off the head and swapping the liners, which would make sense with the reported possibility of a 1700cc kit.

That was said as well about the liner`s , i don`t know about the water cooled motor`s , i have never touched one , the newest in year`s motor i rebuilt was a 88 hd evo ,and there is nothing high tech about them
About time i caught up with technology

Yeah! That's a pretty cool jacket, alright. And I can probably see why they're callin' it the "Thunderbird Jacket" too, 'cause it kind'a looks like the '50s-style leather jacket Brando wore while he was ridin' his 1950 T-Bird in that one particular movie.

(and so, remember here guys...whenever you hop off your new T-Bird sportin' that new T-Bird jacket and when some hot young lady walks up to you, maybe like this here...

I like this and it is straight to the point "Triumph a genuine contender to fire across the Atlantic into the land of the Hog.

With an all-new 1600cc parallel twin with six-speed gearbox and belt drive, Triumph makes no bones about who it’s gunning for with the Thunderbird."

No one respects Triumph's heritage more than I, but that statement would have been MUCH bolder 20 years ago. As it now stands Triumph is merely following a well worn trail blazed by Japanese twins that have gained a solid foothold in the cruiser and custom bike ranks.

I was at my dealer yesterday, and was told they probably wouldn't get one until August or September, just for the fact that nobody has put the money down on it yet. Then again, I was told they have only sold one bike this quarter, and this quarter ends in 3 weeks.

Pretty sure he rode a T-110 in that movie. I like the jacket I think, like to get a better look at it. The Highway jacket that Triumph used to make looks more like the one Marlon wore in The Wild One.

On the other hand they'd only have to sell 2500 units to gain a 5% boost in overall Triumph sales...or, to put it another way, sell roughly 1/2 the number that Victory sells in a year. That's likely doable even in a down economy. Now, the new Indian, on the other hand, is really swimming upstream at a starting price of $30K.

Ahh...what's wrong, Leno?! Is that jacket maybe just a little too "retro" for ya there, buddy???

(well, if that's the case, then I'm guessin' that "groovy" little cap Brando is sportin' here just might be off your shopping list TOO then, huh?!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
