I have an 09 America with EFI. On at least three occasions when riding the engine has shut off. When it happens the oil pressure light comes on. The first time it occurred I was down shifting into 2nd. I was able to get it restarted without having to stop. A few minutes later I was up shifting into 5th and it cut off again. This time I had to pull to the side of the road to get the bike to restart. I am not a mechanic and have no idea what to look for. I have checked the battery connection and oil levels. Both look fine. Cables are secure and terminals are still clean and shiny.

Could it be that you are hitting the rev limiter and that is cutting the engine off?

I guess vacuum lock isn't a factor on EFI, huh? The engine cutting out is not normal, but if the engine stops, the oil light being on is normal. It won't make pressure if it's not running obviously. Good news for you, it has a warranty, take it to the dealer.

Mine has cut out when I hit the rev limiter to the point where I had to turn the key off and back on to get it to refire. Since it is a BA it doesn't have a tach unless he installed one so seems to me he may just be hitting the rev limiter. Wouldn't hurt to have the dealer check it since as Dave says you have a warranty.

Ed, welcome to the forums and congrats on the new purchase. I'm really curious to see if the EFI models are more powerful than the carbed versions given the fact that the specs state that they have more horsepower.
When it comes to stalling problems, I'm not really experienced with the EFI models. On the carb models, the engine would often stall due to a pinched vacuum line to the fuel tank. The line ran up under the tank and would often be pinched by the tank mounts. If the engine stalled or started to sputter, simply opening the fuel tank would solve the problem pointing to the cause. I'm sure the EFI model fuel tanks require some form of vent line.
How does the bike quit. Sudden stall or sputters. Ian's comments about hitting the rev limiter are also valid. Need more data.

It just cuts off. The engine never stutters pops or anything. It just dies. I had a tach installed when I purchased the bike. RPMs were between 2500-3500 when shifting into 5th gear. I did not look to see that the RPMs were when I was downshifting. I was coming to a stop and was not on the throttle.

Check the battery connections

Is the engine still turning over when the pressure light comes on? Or do you mean that the light comes on after the engine stops turning (clutch in or bike not moving)?

Mine cut off and restarted two years ago. I couldn't find anything wrong, but checked the gap on ignitor cable (found it to be in spec) and haven't had that issue since. Your bike is under warranty, I'd let the dealer trouble-shoot since you checked the obvious. Keep us posted, the EFI bikes are new to most of us.

Mine had the battery connections problem. They were loose, and made the battery not charge properly, and eventually, lack power to start the bike. Tighten up, and no problemo.

Just on the off chance, when you are changing down are you blipping the throttle. I found that on my EFI this causes the ECU to go into a state of panic and sometimes the engine dies.
I had put the TORS on and had the stealer remapp it. If I do not blip the throttle while changing down the bike is fine..

That and I always blip the throttle when down shifting to bring engine RPMS up before releasing the clutch.
