I am trying to decide between Specialty Spares Or a set of Bubs. I know the SS's from Fast Eddy come with matched jets and the AIR kit, and free shipping which makes the price much better, Just trying to figure out some feedback about the two different ones. Any help would be great, thanks

Not again...

My vote is for Bubs. They gave a great sound to my bike that alot of people seemed to like. Do a little reading in this section and you'll find all the arguments for each set of pipes.

Blue/White 2007 TBA, Thruxton needles, Unifilter, AI removed, Polaris Bellmouth, Bubs, Nology Coils/wires, Lightbar, Ricor Intiminators, Hagon Nitros, Tall Sissy Bar w/luggage rack, Dart flyscreen & Lowers. 130 Mains, TrueGel Battery MG12-BS.

I'm not aware of any SS owner that has needed to return their pipes for rusty welds, etc. Mine have close to 30k on them and look new. Bubs seem a bit throatier, SS a bit deeper. Pretty similar sounds imo. I like the ability to wrap or unwrap the baffles on the SS and fine tune the sound. My baffles have about 25% less wrapping.

Yeah I know this has been gone over and over, but most compare all different brands, I was just trying to decide between these two. I did like the idea of the removable baffles in the SS's, for like ssjones said, to change the tone if I want.

I love, nay covet, Zmilin's Specialty Spares. They sound incredible.

But then again, I really liked AmyLee's Bubs, too.

SS is not. They did offer a choice for a brief period a few years ago but I can't recall an owners here who opted for that choice. Maybe that is the descernible difference - stainless is a bit tougher to do a good weld on. I bet if you called SS direct, he might make them in stainless. (you would no doubt lose the free shipping via Fast Eddy)

I'm a chrome guy...<g>

For what it's worth, after my accident last April, Z rode my bike off Whidby Island and down to a dealer. I followed in his girlfriend's car. When we met up at the dealer, Z did say he liked the sound of my Bubs. Something about they had a good sound (growl) to them at all speeds.

But yes, I do like the sound of his pipes as well. However, I'm hooked on my Bubs. So much so, I had them removed before the Insurance took the bike, and they will go on my next TBA. I don't care if the left one is a little beat up looking. It will be a reminder of what happened. They sound so good to me.

There was a previous thread where someone, far more experienced than me, said something about the Bub engineers actually tune their pipes for these bikes.

Love my SS. I've had them for about 6 months. Based on my experience with Bub, don't waist your time. At the three year mark, the Bubs rusted through where they connected to the headers. I kept getting the run around about when the redesigned pipes would be ready (it was always "in a couple of weeks"). Sure, they sound good but not impressed with quality control.

Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

LIES!
I said they sounded very consistent at all RPMs.

The SS growl... the Bubs seem to bark (no offense to any owners) .
Heres the thing....the SS have a lower frequency tone and will change with RPM.
The Bubs (even the scrathed ones like Steve had ) were very consistent through the RPM range. Not as low a tone but very nice.

Both are great pipes! Just pick a set and ride!

Well I am almost convinced. I believe I am going with the SS's, the mainly reason is the ability to repack, something the bub's dont have. I know these arnt as high priced as some pipes you guys run, but still for more then $400 for a set of pipes, on a working man salary, I have to be sure it is the right buy. Man it sucks, you can get complete duals on your car for $200 and for a bike it's $400+ for just a pair of mufflers, how is the right?

On the car, it doesn't matter how ugly it is! Besides, car exhaust is relatively universal, pipes are made for these bikes. Did you check out the Trident exhaust? Stainless and less money than a lot of other options. It would be nice if someone stateside got a set to review.

My Bubs are repackable. As a matter of fact i took out the packing when i got them. My Bubs werent made for the triumph, they were made for a harley. They are the Dresser dogs slip ons i believe. Performance is great and sound is good too.

Start knocking out baffles until you are happy. That's free and what I did. I like the sound best of all the pipes I have heard.

I also love my Specialty Spares. They are not as raspy and seem lower pitched than the Bubs. I liked the original stock slash cut look. IMHO, I think the SS pipes look better than stock ones and the Bubs don't look quite as good. I think it's the straighter (not as fat) lines of the SS.

I have almost 15,000 miles on my SS pipes and the chrome looks great - no rust anywhere. I've left the baffles alone. As the pipes settle in, they do get louder. At one time I thought about adding some material, but since doing the BB, I love the even lower pitch of the BB. My pipes are the quietest of all my bike friends I ride with. They all ride Harleys with non stock pipes.

By the way, I have the SS Long Cannons w/billet tips. Although the exhaust note is a personal preference, the Long Cannons sound the best. The link of a fellow board member with drive-by videos is no longer available. It's a shame, that's what sealed the deal for me. If any one has another link with a SS demo, please share.

Just get your best price and buy them. I prefer the Specialty Spares sound. I like the sound of both. Bubs are great - but just another pipe. Dale seems to add a little love to the mix with the SS pipes, and it's valentine season.

Once again,
I've had my Bubs side by side in Rob's garage with his SS longs(I think).
Also ridden with him on the road, and put our bikes on the same
dyno at the same time.
See NH dyno results.

I think his SS sound a little better, but think the Bubs
give more performance, and sound pretty darn good anyway.

There's a pic of my bike in the customer gallery on Bub's site.

Well after all this question and answers, I ended up buying a set of Epco's, go figure ask for help and I end up not listening to anyone. Whats really bad is right after I paid for them I found a set of SS long canons locally still brand new in the box, guy never installed them for $350. See never fails Murphy's law prevails again so if you know anyone looking for a set of brand new in the box SS canons complete, let me know and I will pass on the info.

Those Epco's have a bark and I like the shape. What are Epco's going for these days? In the past they were always on the upper end cost-wise.

I've had my Specialty Spares for 4.5 years now and wouldn't have anything else. If I got a new bike, I'd put the same pipes on it.
