Heres a variation on this theme which I've just finished.
The cops over here are a bit hot on plates that lay as far down as the American ones so I decided to go half way, and I wanted to keep my flashers.
This is the bracket I made, had powder coated and fitted in place of original
These are with the plate back on, there not great pictures, in the garage and on my phone but you get the idea.
These pictures are rubbish, I'll take some better ones tommorrow.
