on a sled, and it resulted in a trip to the Urgent Care Center. Man, I did not see those huge bumps halfway down the hill, and my butt, back and arm took a severe beatdown. Good news is, the X-rays were negative, and I got some drugs to ease the pain... bad news, I probably wont be able to turn the throttle or squeeze the brake on the bike for a while. At 30 years old, am I too old for this ******?

30....Man are you in for a shock. Just wait till you add about 20 more years to it. Then try that down hill stuff. One good thing about the extra years though. You don't much get the urge to do that kind of thing anymore.

Yeah, like I said, that's probably my last time. Doc said it's gonna hurt worse in the morning, YAY! The muscle relaxers and pain killers are kickin in now though, so I'm feeling a tiny bit better now.

I still love to sleigh ride and I'll be 44 next month. However I am only good for a couple trips back up the hill if I have to walk it. If we have a snowmobile to tow us back up then I'm good for most of the day.

This hill was packed down from a whole lot of sledders, so it was almost like ice. I had some good speed going when I saw the triple jump treachery that was to deliver the pain. I hit the first one, flew up about 3 feet, came down on my butt (that's what got the back), then jump number two threw me up about as high, but this time I flipped, and drove my elbow into the ground. I couldn't get up for about 5 minutes, knocked the wind out of me, hurt so bad. I can take pain pretty well, this one got me good. I hobbled back to the car and went home. It was also my first trip down the hill for the day, and you couldn't see the jumps from the top. I hurt.

That sounds like it would hurt. Love those hard packed hills but steer clear of those jumps, I doubt my butt couldn't take it either.

I'm tellin ya Dave, I'm laughing at your sled story. I can just see you doing that! Yeah, sure, don't give up on the sledding thing, but use my old guy strategy to take off some of the pain of the big bumps. Ya gotta go back at least twice at the buffet, exercise a little less, let the young guys at work carry two sheets of plywood. You get my drift. Soon, like me, you'll have a little extra cushin, both front and back, to absorb the blows of the winter sports!

I agree with trash. I'll be 36 tomorrow. A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend and I were over at some friend's house, they're 25; it's about 2 in the morning and one of them says "lets play hide and go seek." I said, "I'm way too old for that crap!"

Yeah Rich, I hear ya! And I can picture you laughing at my expense! I was almost convinced that my arm was fractured, I have little use of my hand and hardly any range of motion in my arm. Looks like I will be on light duty for a few days, I guess it's good thing that work is slow (yeah right).

Like Irma Bombeck said about exercize, "No pain, no pain". When I feel the urge to do something, I first stop and try to figure out how much it's going to hurt.

Where did you go sledding Dave? Art Hill or somewhere else. Didn't know you were getting so feeble in your old age...
Hope you feel better... ...good story

Went to the hill on Summit St. in Webster Groves. I had been there so many times before, even as a kid, but this time, the triple jump got me... I just didn't see it.

Hey, I only posted my story because I knew you all would get a kick out of it! Glad I make everyone laugh! As long as I don't have any long term back pain (more than usual), then it's all good. And I can't possibly feel any worse than BrianT after that spill on his bike.
And I have plenty of chrome polish, Mark!

The last time I was on a toboggan, I had a sudden stop - against a tree. It jammed both of my feet and ankles into the curl at the front and I almost got thrown out against the tree. It hurt - BAD!!!
