My neutral light stays on when in gear & bike will ride with sidestand down (rather worrying as I found out!).

Happened after my little boy sat on it. I think he has kicked or troden on something but can't see anything loose or that has been pinched.

Have tried the search facility but only reference I could see referred to pinched wires but no fix.

Anyone any ideas where to look for the solution please?

I would start tracing wires starting at the kick stand switch to start and see if you can find something loose. The neutral switch is under the engine but not sure how the wires for that are run without going out to look at my bike. I don't see what he could have done from the seated position but maybe getting on or off he grabbed or like you say stepped on a wire knocking it loose. Brings me back to the kickstand switch but that alone shouldn't cause the neutral switch to stay on as far as I know.

I'd check the wires going into the alternator (rt side) cover. He may have put his weight on them shorting out or disconnecting the neutral safety switch wire. Be careful, it will also start in gear.

That usually happens after removing the sprocket cover. There's not much room for the wires and it's easy to pinch the one to the neutral switch when you reinstall it.
(If that's it, we have a club).

They re-routed that wire on the newer bikes. I pinched my '05 with sprocket cover, don't know what year they changed it.
