Are you doing short runs, or starting the bike up for short periods over the winter for example, that can leave condensation in the pipes?
With my old BMW I would take the silencers of once a year and fill them with used engine oil, drain and refit, this then burns/bakes onto the inside and protects them. smokes for a few miles mind you.
