has anyone removed what i call the "dashboard" from the gas tank? I thought it might have a nicer look on the bike if that were gone. I figured something would need to be done about the gas cap position, but i would be interested in hearing if anyone has tried this.

Neill (Echoance) was on about taking the dash off his, but I can't remember if he actually did it.
I've painted the dash black with a glitter layer on (doesn't sound as bad as it sounds..) and I like it.

If you remove it you will have to do quite a bit of body work to smooth out the front of the tank where there is a dent to allow room for the tach and wiring. There are also 3 tabs sticking up that would need to be removed and smoothed out. There was a thread about it not too long ago.

I think chopperpaul did his like that. When you smooth out the tank and put a different fuel cap on it, they look pretty sweet.

This is the only picture I saved with the dash just basically left off (I think he did at least cut the tabs off). Not a very good picture to show off the dashless gas cap. http://picasaweb.google.com/friarjohn/CoolBikes#5220263425137225506 I think the member's name is Heueh (Lars Nordgren). Looks like he hasn't posted here in about a year but you might want to drop him a PM anyway.

Ed (Biker) removed the dash on his America. There's a photo of his bike in the thread about springer front ends in the Customs section. The photo doesn't give you a real good look at the tank though. Personally, I think the tank looks good without the chrome dash.
