Testicular cancer has one of the highest recovery rates of all the cancers. But you need to get treated early.
No hijack Kid, oops Eric,
I went in for a routine checkup on a Friday in the Spring, 1978. The Doctor found an unusual testicular "mass" or hardening. I was in surgery the following Monday, followed by another surgery and six months of "Just to be sure we got it" chemotherapy.
I had three things in my favor; early detection, a very supportive family and a '76 Bonneville. At one point early on I asked the Urologist from India, Dr. Nair "What my chances were?" He replied in a clipped Indian accent, "Young man, I do not do odds, either you live or you die, it is my job to see that you live". His directness remains one of the funniest things I heard. My Oncologist, Dr. Ramirez (the Chemo guy) was from Mexico, the chief nurse, a black woman. Let's say I don't have a problem with "diversity", whatever that is
First thing I did getting out of the hospital following the surgeries was go for a little spin, as it was a beautiful spring day. My poor mother threw a fit
