I know there was a thread recently on this but I can't find it!!

What sites do people use to download music in MP3 format? Hedgehog has told me about bit torrent sites but they require whole album downloads and take time to complete.

I am looking for a cheap ( but free is better!!) site that will allow me to download individual songs rather than whole albums.

I know about the obvious ones ( amazon, HMV etc) but any other suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

Hi Nobby, you can download individual tracks on torrents. Although, if you are after a particular track it helps to know what album it is on to make the search easier.

I use bit-comet to download the stuff onto,(http://www.bitcomet.com/) and torrentpond to find the music.(http://www.torrentpond.com/) Works a treat.
Not that I would condone this sort of thing though!!

I use mp3raid.com, it's free and easy, you just have to promise not to use the files on music sharing sites like limewire and others. PM me if you have any questions, I've gotten hundreds of songs off of it.

www.limewire.com I use this for my individual song downloads... It is also a torrent client..meaning it will download torrent files that you find...Limewire is also a form of P2P (peer to peer) sharing..meaning if people are online and have that song you can just download direct from them...Lime wire has a cool search built into it where you can search album, artist, song yada yada....best of all it is free...no need to download limewire pro

+1 for Limewire. Several years of use by my kids with no problems whatsoever. I dont feel guilty about this either, we spend an absolute fortune on cd's & dvd's every year as well as all the concerts we go to.

another vote for Limewire. I've been using it for years and have downloaded hundreds of songs, with no problems.

WHat Bonfire Boy said. Bitcomet pops out a box before download that enables you to deselect the songs you do not need. Its faster and I have never had any problems with viruses. Using a torrent (p2p) download like Bitcomet also means that you can read reviews that people have wrote before you download, that way you know you're not gonna get any pish!

Install and have running "Peer Guardian" whilst downloading. This masks your IP addy from potential idiots.

I use www.btjunkie.org for my d/loads

another thing I will say about the site I use, mp3raid.com, is that there is no software to download, no sign up information to enter, just find the song you want, right click and download attached file right to the desktop, from there I can just drag it to my itunes library. I really don't think it can be easier than that.
