I was wondering about that. How long altogether? I know it was around in early 04 - this is how i learned to love my america before I bought it.

ahhh, answered my own question with the intyernet wayback machine. the earliest archived www.bonnevilleamerica.com page is from July 2002: http://web.archive.org/web/20020714055156/http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/index.html (warning this comes up slowly).

I note that they were hoping to get the photo section up soon.

so it will be seven years this coming summer.

Actually...looks like June 24 of 2002 was opening day.
Kinda cool...never thought of going back that far.

06/24/2002 | BonnevilleAmerica.com opens to the public.
Greetings everyone! I am pleased to announce the grand opening of this web site. A site dedicated to Triumph enthusiasts around the globe. I, like yourself, was drawn to the Triumph Bonneville America when I first saw one on the Triumph web site. I liked it so much, I went out and bought one. With intentions of customizing this bike and learning more about it, I set out on the internet to find out more and to my surprise I came up with very little. So being the opportunist and enthusiast I though it would be a great idea to put up a place for people like me who could share ideas and photos with each other all over the world. I hope you enjoy your time here, and please come back to check out new features as they are implemented. I plan on making this the best Triumph fan site ever developed!

Sincerely,

Robert Wade
Administrator, BonnevilleAmerica.com

And good on everyone who contributed to the purchase of this forum software in 2004-05 (and as I recall some other hardware bits) that allowed this rapidly growing site to progress past the small hand-coded forum that Robert started with in '02.

(I'm not criticizing those who didn't contribute; it wasn't required and still isn't. I'm just saying thanks to those who did.)

I really miss the old days, there seemed to be more passion with fewer imposed limits... and definatley fewer recipies and music polls.

Not just that, but there was still much to be discovered about these bikes. In the intervening years we've explored every nook and cranny and seen just about every mod you can think of. We've reached a sort of status quo where now the biggest new activity on this site is welcoming new members/owners and answering the (same old) questions over and over again. That's still very valid and a different kind of satisfaction, but it's not quite the same as unveiling some new trick or discovering some new part from another bike that works on ours.

I agree John, but there are a few things that are still developing. A lot of members are moving to the 904BB due to influence over the past year on this site. We have learned how to tweak and trick out the bikes to near maximum potential, but the need for collective knowledge will pop up.

New items may become available as people get closer to rebuild stage. There may be new BB kits, different belt drives, or other post 865 mods and EFI updates. The learning curve will never rise at the rate earlier but will continue.

I come to the site for bike related stuff and don't care too much for outside topics. I really miss the PhotoPost and I used to look at posted photos a lot. It not only made it easy to post, it was a great collection of pics. Hope the gurus that be can figure out a way to get it back. I do appreciate the work and effort making the site possible.

What Bob said! I'm not from the 'old days' but can vouch for a relative newcomer the value of this site. I did a lot of reading when I first found it and even though I was pretty sure what bike I was going to buy this site tipped it over the edge quickly. A great resource for most of us.
Thanks old and new contributors.

I love the blather (we need a new blather thread!) all the joking around and all keeps the site from being too dry. I think answering the questions for the new guys is as important as figuring them out in the first place. I love talking bikes BA , SM , or other and like seeing what people do with them weather I like the result or not. They are cool to see, ugly and cool alike.

I miss my sanity...
I miss some of the characters that used to make me laugh, make me think, and make me dream.
I miss Renegade's stories.
I miss Tad's (Bluesbass) reflections on the state of humanity as viewed over handlebars.
I miss that cryptic "better living through chemistry" guy's (I can't remember his screen name) postings who only I could decipher. I don't know why, but I knew what he was trying to say.....!
I miss Kodiak's passion for these bikes, even though he could never afford to buy one.
I even miss the "Green Room" sometimes, but a few slaps to the head brings me to my senses.

And I miss too many rallies. Life keeps getting in the way.

Thanks, Mr. Robert Wade. Looks like life gets in your way too. I still remember the video.....

And I guess this is a "blather"....
